Media Roundup On Recent Clinton and Rice Comments Regarding Failure to Prevent 9/11

Rice and the Bush administration come out swinging -

Now we get to play the old familiar game he should she said. President Clinton said on Fox News Sunday that the Bush administration was given a comprehensive anti-terror plan. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice fired back in an interview with the New York Post. She states that the Bush administration was not given a plan. So what are we to believe? On one hand we have President Clinton who is trying to set the record straight and trying to clear his name. On the other hand, we have the Bush administration which has only one in a row in its quiver. That arrow is terror. If the Bush administration is not fighting terror as vigorously as they would like us to believe they would be in a great deal of trouble with the midterm elections. Therefore, each party has a reason to bend the truth.

This story is actually a few days old but is growing in steam with more and more information surrounding other officials making the news. It's even getting some big discussions going over at dailykos:

The Case For Intellectual Integrity -

It would be refreshing to find somebody who doesn't agree with 9/11 conspiracy theories (so-called) who was willing to debate them in a civil way. And I don't mean the editors of Popular Mechanics, either. Perhaps the civil ones are changing their minds? One such is Bill Christison, the distinguished former CIA analyst and popular author of progressive political essays. Within the past year Bill has changed his mind about 9/11, from rejecting conspiracy theories outright to thinking that the standard story is not what it seems. In this conversation we talk a lot about what happens when one rethinks something like 9/11, less about the facts in question. I'm very grateful to Bill for talking with me and I hope this conversation helps those who are still sorting things out. Runtime of about an hour and nineteen minutes.

Former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Paul Craig Roberts Weighs in on 5th Anniversary of 9/11

Five Years After and We Still Don’t Know -

In the five years since three World Trade Center buildings collapsed into their own footprints in virtually free fall time, the convincing power of the official explanation of that day’s events has evaporated. Polls show that 36% of Americans do not believe the official account. As Lev Grossman writes in Time magazine (September 3, 2006), “Thirty-six percent adds up to a lot of people. This is not a fringe phenomenon. It is a mainstream political reality.”
The call by 9/11 skeptics for an independent investigation by an international panel of experts is not a conspiracy theory. In principle there is nothing wrong with such an investigation. In practice, it might be difficult to create a truly independent panel. How many physicists, for example, have careers independent of government grants, and how many engineering firms would risk being branded “unpatriotic” and lose business by coming down on the “wrong” side of the issue?

Nowhere is there a surfeit of brave men.

I do not know what happened on 9/11, and I don’t expect to ever find out. Neither government nor media show any interest in providing us with anything except a political commission’s report.
