Newly Released CIA Documents Show 9-11 Warnings Before Attack
http://www.topsecretwriters.com/2012/07/newly-released-cia-documents-sho...
Could 9/11 have been prevented?
Up until now the common sentiment was that the 9/11 attacks came as a complete shock to the U.S., which had no idea that the devastation that happened on September 11, 2001 was going to occur.
However, a trove of documents have been released concerning Osama bin Laden and terrorist attacks that paints an alarming picture that President Bush had actually been warned of an imminent attack, but had chosen to ignore the warnings.
The CIA documents are newly declassified and have been released to the National Security Archive. The documents are available to read on DocumentCloud, a document uploading site that gives users access to extensive information about organizations, people and places.
The highly damning documents provide readers with a clearer account of U.S. knowledge about the possibility of its country being attacked, which blatantly contradicts claims made by Bush officials, that the U.S. government was aggressively pursuing bin Laden and al-Qaida prior to 9/11 and that nobody could have predicted the 9/11 attacks.

Truther Lawyers Earn Judicial Wrath by Bobak Ha'Eri
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals imposed sanctions and penalties against attorneys involved in bringing forward a 9/11 Truther lawsuit, specifically for frivolous and vexatious appeals and motions. The suit, originally filed by a survivor of the Pentagon attack, accuses various U.S. leaders of conspiring to arrange the September 11 attacks. In addition to learning how hard it can be to convince a court of controversial subject matter, the lawyers discovered something more fundamental: If you’re upset that the judges on a federal circuit panel aren’t buying into your conspiracy theories, it might be wise to refrain from making bold accusations regarding their professionalism in your subsequent submissions—as it turns out, judges do read them and can be rather unamused.

Russ Baker: The NY Times’ Ostrich Act on JFK Assassination Getting Old

http://whowhatwhy.com/2011/07/27/the-ny-times%E2%80%99-ostrich-act-on-jf...
By Russ Baker on Jul 27, 2011
Nobody’s perfect. But it’s hard to think of anything as unworthy of a high-quality journalistic institution as the New York Times’ decades-long determination to never, ever, find any reason to question the original story spun by the Warren Commission on the JFK assassination. No matter how much new evidence has come out to the contrary.
It reminds a bit of the forever-blinkered character Sgt. Schultz on the old tv show Hogan’s Heroes (“I see NUUU-singg”—here’s a good clip, watch first minute or so…)
Ask any reporter, privately, what he or she thinks on this issue. Putting aside those who will demur on the basis of not having read widely on the topic (a surprisingly large number), you’ll find most believing that the “lone nut” or “Leftist loner” narratives about Oswald are utter junk. This would certainly apply in the New York Times newsroom.

Amnesty International: US must begin criminal investigation of torture following Bush admission
http://www.amnestyusa.org/document.php?id=ENGPRE201011101946&lang=e#
PRESS RELEASE
November, 10 2010
Amnesty International today urged a criminal investigation into the role of former US President George W. Bush and other officials in the use of "enhanced interrogation techniques" against detainees held in secret US custody after the former president admitted authorizing their use.
In his memoirs, published yesterday, and in an interview on NBC News broadcast on 8 November 2010, the former President confirmed his personal involvement in authorising "water-boarding" and other techniques against "high value detainees".
"Under international law, the former President's admission to having authorized acts that amount to torture are enough to trigger the USA's obligations to investigate his admissions and if substantiated, to prosecute him," said Claudio Cordone, Senior Director at Amnesty International.
"His admissions also highlight once again the absence of accountability for the crimes under international law of torture and enforced disappearance committed by the USA."

Report: Bush thought United Flight 93 was shot down on 9/11

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/10/report-bush-thought-pa-plane-shot-911/
By David Edwards
Thursday, October 28th, 2010
The first details about former President George W. Bush's new book have begun to leak out.
According to a report at Matt Drudge's website, The Drudge Report, the new book Decision Points talks about topics including alcoholism, his order to shoot down planes on 9/11, Katrina and the financial crisis.
According to Drudge, the book begins, "It was a simple question, 'Can you remember the last day you didn't have a drink?'"
The book also discusses the events of Sept. 11, 2001. That morning, Bush says he made the order to shoot down hijacked planes.
At 10:03 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001, United Flight 93 slammed into an empty field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Most believe it was brought down when passengers tried to overtake the hijackers.
Bush writes that at first he believed Flight 93 had been shot down by the US military, according to Drudge's filing.

Olbermann rips Liz Cheney for her father’s ‘dereliction’ on 9/11 By Eric W. Dolan
Thursday, September 23rd, 2010 -- 3:49 pm
On MSNBC's Countdown Wednesday, Keith Olbermann slammed Liz Cheney for claiming President Barack Obama is "unwilling or unable" to keep the nation safe, noting that her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, and former President George W. Bush, were unable to prevent the September 11th attacks.
Cheney's statement is in response to a claim made in Bob Woodward's recently published book that Obama told him America "can absorb a terrorist attack."
"Americans expect our president to do everything possible to defend the nation from attack," writes Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and Chairman of Keep America Safe.

"Untangling the Bizarre CIA Links to the Ground Zero Mosque"
The New York Observer, Mark Ames, September 10, 2010
So far, the debate over the proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero has unfolded along predictable lines, with the man at the center of the project, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, drawing attacks from the right painting him as a terrorist sympathizer with ties to Hamas[1] and the Muslim Brotherhood.[2]
But meanwhile, links between the group behind the controversial mosque, the CIA and U.S. military establishment have gone unacknowledged.

CIA whisked detainees from Gitmo
By: MATT APUZZO and ADAM GOLDMAN
Associated Press
08/06/10 1:10 PM PDT
WASHINGTON — A white, unmarked Boeing 737 landed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before dawn on a CIA mission so secretive, many in the nation's war on terrorism were kept in the dark.
Four of the nation's most highly valued terrorist prisoners were aboard.
They arrived at Guantanamo on Sept. 24, 2003, years earlier than the U.S. has ever disclosed. Then, months later, they were just as quietly whisked away before the Supreme Court could give them access to lawyers.
The transfer allowed the U.S. to interrogate the detainees in CIA "black sites" for two more years without allowing them to speak with attorneys or human rights observers or challenge their detention in U.S. courts. Had they remained at the Guantanamo Bay prison for just three more months, they would have been afforded those rights.

Family of Secrets Author Speaks in SF
Author Russ Baker, gives a gripping talk on his book, Family of Secrets- an in depth examination of the Bush dynasty and America's invisible government, at Borders Books in San Francisco, June 15, 2010.
Anyone interested in the scholarly pursuit of how power really works in the US and to what extent the purveyors of that power will go need to read Russ' book. This highly disturbing book has been quarantined even by what many consider to be an open minded show---Comedy Central. The jokes on us. If you want to understand the dark back story to events like those on September 11, consider bringing Russ Baker into your consciousness.

Obama wins the right to detain people with no habeas review by Glenn Greenwald

Obama wins the right to detain people with no habeas review
(updated below - Update II)
Few issues highlight Barack Obama's extreme hypocrisy the way that Bagram does. As everyone knows, one of George Bush’s most extreme policies was abducting people from all over the world -- far away from any battlefield -- and then detaining them at Guantanamo with no legal rights of any kind, not even the most minimal right to a habeas review in a federal court. Back in the day, this was called "Bush's legal black hole." In 2006, Congress codified that policy by enacting the Military Commissions Act, but in 2008, the Supreme Court, in Boumediene v. Bush, ruled that provision unconstitutional, holding that the Constitution grants habeas corpus rights even to foreign nationals held at Guantanamo. Since then, detainees havewon 35 out of 48 habeas hearings brought pursuant to Boumediene, on the ground that there was insufficient evidence to justify their detention.

Credo quia absurdum
Contrary to propaganda opinion, the West is not free. Our so-called democratic governments have not been honest with the people about the true origins of the government-made crisis that is called terrorism. And I am not coming from an anti-government perspective. Nor do I believe that non-state terrorism doesn't exist. It does, but it must be put into context, and any terrorist threat must be handled with detective tools rather than predator drones. But the larger threat to human civilization that we must face and fight against is state terrorism.

George W. Bush 'knew Guantánamo prisoners were innocent'

George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld covered up that hundreds of innocent men were sent to the Guantánamo Bay prison camp because they feared that releasing them would harm the push for war in Iraq and the broader War on Terror, according to a new document obtained by The Times.
The accusations were made by Lawrence Wilkerson, a top aide to Colin Powell, the former Republican Secretary of State, in a signed declaration to support a lawsuit filed by a Guantánamo detainee. It is the first time that such allegations have been made by a senior member of the Bush Administration.

Lawyers Cleared Over 9/11 Memos
By JESS BRAVIN
WASHINGTON—A senior Justice Department official cleared two Bush administration lawyers of professional-misconduct allegations in connection with memorandums the lawyers wrote authorizing harsh interrogations.
The decision by David Margolis, the deputy associate attorney general, overruled internal findings that the Bush officials committed professional misconduct and should be referred to their state bar associations for disciplinary proceedings.
The legal work was at the heart of the debate over Bush-era practices in the war on terror, with critics calling the practices approved in the memorandums torture. Mr. Margolis didn't endorse the legal work performed by the lawyers, John Yoo and Jay Bybee, who drafted the once-secret memorandums. But the men should not face punishment, Mr. Margolis decided, because the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks placed them under extraordinary pressure and it would be unfair to hold them to "best practices" after the fact.

Perry dismisses 9/11 suggestion by GOP rival
02/11/2010
Associated Press
Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison are dismissing a suggestion from a Republican gubernatorial primary rival that the U.S. government was involved in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Appearing on the Glenn Beck Show, Debra Medina said there were "some very good arguments" that the U.S. was involved in bringing down the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
Medina, Perry and Hutchison are battling for the GOP nomination. Perry said Medina's remarks Thursday "were an insult to the thousands of Americans who lost loved ones." He countered that anyone "should be ashamed" for suggesting involvement by former President George W. Bush's administration. Bush was Perry's predecessor as Texas governor.
Hutchison stressed that it was "al-Qaida terrorists who declared war on America. To suggest otherwise is an affront to the men and women who are sacrificing their lives to root out the terrorists in Afghanistan and around the globe."

War Criminals: Arrest Warrants Requested
25.01.2010 Source: Pravda.Ru
International arrest warrants have been requested for George W. Bush, Richard (Dick) Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, George Tenet, Condoleeza Rice and Alberto Gonzales at the International Criminal Court, The Hague, Netherlands.
Professor of Law Francis A. Boyle of the University of Illinois College of Law in Champain, United States of America, has issued a Complaint with the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Court against the above-mentioned for their practice of “extraordinary rendition” (forced disappearance of persons and subsequent torture) in Iraq and for criminal policy which constitutes Crimes against Humanity in violation of the Rome Statute which set up the ICC.
As such, the Accused (mentioned above) are deemed responsible for the commission of crimes within the territories of many States signatories of the Rome Statute, in violation of Rome Statute Articles 5 (1)(b), 7 (1)(a), 7 (1)(e), 7 (1)(g), 7(1)(h), 7(1)8i) and 7(1)(k). Despite the fact that the USA is not a signatory State, the ICC has the jurisdiction to prosecute under Article 12 (2)(a) of the Rome Statute.

Why would he claim he saw the first plane hit before stepping into the classroom? And really.......a Commercial Airliner hits the WTC and the President thinks..."that's one terrible pilot"? Really? I guess he thought the Commercial Airliner Co- pilot must have been even worse, or asleep, you'd think the co-pilot would at least ask, "uh...any reason why we are flying hundreds of miles off course into a major city, Captain?"

Have We Learned Anything from the Bush Years? by George Washington
Fear makes people stupid.
It makes us unable to think straight. And it makes us give up our power to tough-talking authoritarians.
War Is Stupid
And since the "war on terror" is now being expanded to Yemen, it is worth remembering that experts state that the "war on terror" has been counterproductive for keeping us safe. For example, a leading advisor to the U.S. military, the hawkish Rand Corporation, released a study in 2008 called "How Terrorist Groups End: Lessons for Countering al Qa'ida".
The report confirms what experts have been saying for years: the war on terror is actually weakening national security (see this, this and this).
As a press release about the study states:
"Terrorists should be perceived and described as criminals, not holy warriors, and our analysis suggests that there is no battlefield solution to terrorism."
And see this.
