History lines up 9/11, WWII docs

US cable network History has greenlit a 102-minute special about the September 11 terrorist attacks and a 10-part series following US soldiers in the Second World War.

102 Minutes That Changed America plays out in real time, using amateur and profession footage shot on the day of the attacks. The one-off show will premiere on the anniversary of the attacks later this year.

WWII HD, set for a 2009 debut, will trace the experiences of a group of US soldiers, using 3,000 hours of colour archive footage, diary and journal entries.

The network will incorporate original Library of Congress audio recordings from the war into the series as part of their recently formed multimedia partnership.

The goal is to present the events of the war "not as detached historical facts but rather as profound experiences on the level of a great Hollywood epic," the network said.

Anybody know about blasting caps or detonators that self-destruct?

The triumphant statement by a " demolition expert" on the History Channel that he saw no detonation cord, wiring or remnants of blasting caps at Ground Zero has given courage to OCT supporters.

This has come up in a long-running debate I'm running on an industry forum. The latest rejoinder I got was this

"you have not produced one blasting cap, nor one piece of wiring"

What I could find on the Web on the subject was all about detection of

A. detonators before they explode, or
B. explosives by means of chemical taggants after the blast

but nothing about detecting remnants of detonators post-blast (except that "stealth explosives" has been used as a term of ridicule for the controlled demolition argument.)

Re A, I found this: "Plastic weapons, plastic detonators, explosives enclosed into plastic cases and plastic mines are very difficult to detect."

I am beginning to suspect that the problem of detectability might actually be the other way around.

9/11: Here it comes again

The last time I checked my stack of screeners, I did not see a single television special being produced to observe the sixth anniversary of the attacks on New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

That has not stopped another group of highly creative people from generating their own commemoration of the events of 9/11. I refer, of course, to conspiracy theorists.

This morning I found an email in my inbox from one Guy Smoot, who identified himself as a graduate student in classics at Rutgers University, arguing that 9/11 "was an inside job." I think it was the classics part that got me — that was my major in college, too, and I've always thought it helped develop my critical-thinking skills, which seem to be missing, or underutilized, among the 9/11 conspiracy crowd.

After establishing through a web search that Mr. Smoot probably was who he claimed to be, I read his letter more carefully and wrote a response.

Mr. Smoot writes:

The History Channel has produced a documentary titled 9/11 Conspiracies – Fact or Fiction. It aired on Monday, August 20, 2007. According to the abstract, the documentary examines the various conspiracy theories espoused on the Internet, in articles and in public forums that attempt to explain the 9/11 attacks. It includes theories that the World Trade Center was brought down by a controlled demolition; that a missile, not a commercial airliner, hit the Pentagon; and that members of the U.S. government orchestrated the attacks in hopes of creating a war in the Middle East. Each conspiracy argument is countered by a variety of experts in the fields of engineering, intelligence and the military. The history channel (co-owned by the hearst corporation) ran a two hour piece last week, entitled '9/11 Conspiracies - Fact or Fiction?', in which the editorial staff of Popular Mechanics (also owned by the hearst corporation) were presented as 'experts', nobly 'debunking' various claims cherry-picked from among the thousands of unanswered questions, unaddressed concerns, unresolved anomalies of September 11th, 2001.

The piece featured Purdue's CG simulations of the fluid distribution analysis from AA77 @ the Pentagon, and the more recent World Trade Center impact and core column damage simulation.

Additionally, two other CG animations accompanied the hearst corporation's presentations of the 'conspiracy theories' involving United 93, and American 77 and the occupants of Wedge 1 of the Pentagon.

This entry focuses on the animation for the impact of United flight 93.

If you've seen the BBC Documentary Conspiracy Files: 9/11, then you can surmise what the style of this documentary is.

For those of us who can't wait until tomorrow night for the scheduled History Channel hit piece, '9/11 Conspiracies, Fact or Fiction?' Bit torrent comes to the rescue. I have yet to see it myself, but if we all chip in and seed the torrent, the downloads should pick up speed.

Oops, they did it again. They did it right in the middle of the road at high noon where the whole world could see every blemish on their big, fat, lying asses. Most of you would have to be at least as stupid as they think you are not to be made uncomfortable by such a poorly executed farce. This was overkill to the max. This was absurdity at a level never seen before and it will stand as compelling evidence of near smoking gun proof that the official version of what happened on 9/11 is a lie.

After this call, a firestorm of 9-11 truth began to rage until, after multiple callers had proclaimed their doubt about the government's story, a poor Republican woman had to bemoan how she was depressed that there wasn't enough talk about Al-Qaeda and other Islamo-extremists. She then proceeded to talk about how Janet Reno was the worst AG because of Waco and Ruby Ridge. You'll find no Janet Reno apologist here. People are pissed. And they're beginning to understand who at. Let's take it to court.

I watched the History Channel program "The 9-11 Conspiracies" and it was one of the more wide-ranging 'debunking' efforts so far. This is a good sign. One guy ludicrously dropped 'theory' from its normal place in the epithet, and would just talk about the conspiracies abounding on the internet- 9-11 Blogger's not laundering drug money is it? They even brought up Mineta's testimony, about which Coburn from Popular Mechanics had no flippant response to other than wishing there would soon be some official response to it. We all know that there won't be until there are indictments and summonses.

I don't know if this applies to North America as well, but according to this Australian news outlet the History Channel will show 9/11 Press For Truth in primetime on 9/11/07:

An upcoming documentary entitled The 9/11 Conspiracies, to be aired on the History Channel, may represent the biggest hit piece to date on the 9/11 truth movement and is rife with bias, cronyism and conflicts of interest.

The so-called documentary promises not to look at the flaws in the official story from a neutral perspective but to start out by suggesting that any deviation from the official line is "outrageous".

The program also features so called independent "experts" who are actually in the employ of the program makers themselves who in turn rely on scores of multi-million dollar contracts with the government and the military-industrial complex.

The program, scheduled for Sunday, August 12 at 8:00 PM and Monday, August 13 at 12:00 AM, will feature Alex Jones, the Loose Change crew and other 9/11 researchers such as Professor Steven Jones and Webster Tarpley...

"We need a new 9/11" said one of the final voices in the HIstory Channel documentary, "Inside 9/11." This documentary was so blatently fraudulent, I would recommend showing it to someone so that they can see what the official story is. (At least at this time)

Some of the highlights are:
"Fires at the impact zones reached 2000 degrees farenheit."
Yet, there were people standing in the impact zones?
Yet they play the audio of firefighters on the 78th floor?

"The planes knocked all the fireproofing off of the building."

Then the timeline went something like this,
"10:20 a.m. - The South Tower collapses"
"8:20 p.m. - George Bush gives a speech from the White House"

Did they forget something? Oh yeah... building 7. That can't be important.

I'll have to watch this agan, hopefully someone will get it up on Google Video and do a full analysis.
