U.S. Intelligence Found Iran Nuke Document Was Forged

WASHINGTON (IPS) — U.S. intelligence has concluded that the document published recently by the Times of London, which purportedly describes an Iranian plan to do experiments on what the newspaper described as a “neutron initiator” for an atomic weapon, is a fabrication, according to a former Central Intelligence Agency official.

Philip Giraldi, who was a CIA counterterrorism official from 1976 to 1992, told IPS that intelligence sources say that the United States had nothing to do with forging the document, and that Israel is the primary suspect. The sources do not rule out a British role in the fabrication, however.

The Times of London story published Dec. 14 did not identify the source of the document. But it quoted “an Asian intelligence source” – a term some news media have used for Israeli intelligence officials – as confirming that his government believes Iran was working on a neutron initiator as recently as 2007.

Nearly a half century since Truman’s warning, former CIA analyst Ray McGovern marvels at Truman’s prescience and suggests that the only answer today is to separate out – and protect – the agency’s core analytical function:

After the CIA-led fiasco at the Bay of Pigs in April 1961, President John Kennedy was quoted as saying he wanted to “splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds.” I can understand his anger, but a thousand is probably too many.

Better is a Solomon solution; divide the CIA in two. That way we can throw out the bath water and keep the baby.

Twitter Has Been Hacked

Not long ago, we received reports that Twitter was hacked. If the screenshots are indication, someone got past Twitter’s defenses. The apparent organization responsible is the “Iranian Cyber Army.”

Here’s what we know: Less than an hour ago, Twitter (Twitter) was changed to the screenshot you see below (thanks Chris and others for the images). Not long after this, Twitter and the status blog were taken down.

For one of the world’s most popular websites to be hacked and taken down, even for a few minutes, is a huge embarrassment. This type of thing should never happen. We are awaiting an explanation.

Twitter is still down, likely due to this hacker.

The policy describing US military use of nuclear weapons is the 2005 Doctrine for Joint Nuclear Operations. Its preface states:

"The guidance in this publication is authoritative; as such, this doctrine will be followed except when, in the judgment of the commander, exceptional circumstances dictate otherwise. If conflicts arise between the contents of this publication and the contents of Service publications, this publication will take precedence unless the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, normally in coordination with the other members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has provided more current and specific guidance."

The chapter on Theater Nuclear Operations begins with a foreboding quote:

“Who suspected Pearl Harbor would occur? Who suspected that Hitler would really be as dreadful as he turned out to be? You know, the worst possible case is generally worse than the imagination can imagine.”

A false flag attack is a military term that describes a nation attacking itself disguised as an attack coming from another nation. The purpose of a false flag attack is propaganda for public support for war. The best known historical example is Nazi Germany’s attack on Poland under Operation Himmler.

Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) is the second most powerful member of the GOP in the House of Representatives. In the following 4-minute video from November 9, 2009, Mr. Cantor incites the 2009 General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America in Washington to the contrived view that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is "the man holding the gun with which he vows to kill Israel and the Jews." Most Americans believe that we are in a terrible dilemma. An increasing number are uncomfortable with the continuing carnage in Iraq and Afghanistan and fearful of the consequences of yet another Middle East war, this time against Iran, but most also believe that our country is threatened by dark forces that seek to destroy us and that extreme measures are justified. Few realize that fear alone is bringing about our transformation into a country driven by constant warfare to the detriment of our constitutional liberties.
