Scholarship Failures of Dr. James Fetzer

Fetzer is a 9/11 Activist, not a 9/11 Scholar or Expert

Dr. Fetzer is a good friend of mine, but I am very disappointed with the quality of his scholarship.

There are six areas of scholarship which Dr. Fetzer needs to shore up to become a credible leader in the 9/11 Truth Movement and a true 9/11 Expert. This analysis is based on one thousand conversations and one hundred personal meetings with Dr. Fetzer in the past two years.

1)

Dr. Fetzer has not read and/or is unfamiliar with the material in five fundamental books about 9/11. These books are:

a) The Terror Timeline by Paul Thompson

b) The 9/11 Commission Report

c) The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions by Dr. David Ray Griffin

d) Debunking 9/11 Myths by Popular Mechanics

e) Debunking 9/11 Debunking by Dr. David Ray Griffin

Dr. Fetzer needs to read these books and digest the material to become a true expert on 9/11. To be an expert on any subject, you need to be familiar with both sides of the story, and possess a broad knowledge of all the evidence.

Purdue 9/11 simulation exposed as fraud: Media covers up hoax and conceals crimes

A computer animation by engineers and computer scientists at Purdue University has been exposed as a fraud by a new member of Scholars for 9/11 Truth. James Fetzer, who founded the society, received a study from Nick Irving, replying to his invitation to submit an essay on the Purdue simulation, which can be found on the internet via http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cddIgb1nGJ8 "Nick pointed out that the model was based upon false data about the weakening point of steel and the temperature of jet fuel based fires. He proved that fireproofing was irrelevant because the fires never reached the weakening point of steel. But most importantly of all," Fetzer observed, "he noticed that the simulation does not even model the 'collapse' and cannot have shown that these fires caused one." Dr. James Fetzer and Dr. Judy Wood continue to promote the magical 'dustification' of large amounts of steel in the towers even though no significant amount of steel dust was found in dust samples (see paper referenced below for details). They both promote a video clip from '911 eyewitness' which, they say, proves that the steel core spires from the North Tower turn to dust. However, multiple camera angles clearly show the spires merely falling. Either Dr. Fetzer's analytical abilities are inept or his motives are unprinicipled since he was aware of the other video perspectives in early December, 2006.

I am a concerned 9/11 truther and I must preface everything I say here with this statement.

I am not here to put anyone down, or belittle anyone's efforts. I seek merely to give some constructive criticism of this event in order to focus and hone the efforts of the 9/11 truth movement.

When the 9/11 movement questioned the "Pod" section of Loose Change, it was removed from the movie in order to present the best evidence. This is the difference between the gentlemen of Loose Change, and Mr. Fetzer. Mr. Fetzer chooses to discuss the more outlandish theories in the public domain, in my opinion to the detrement of the movement. I believe that we are still in the court of public opinion, and that we must stick to our best evidence in the public eye.

Several things about Mr. Fetzer's presentation upset me.

I find it frightening how much focus is trying to discredit Dr. Jones. Let's focus on justice before we move on to theories in the public eye. We haven't caught the football yet, let's not run with it.

Everyone who has been following the debate within 'Scholars for 9/11 Truth' are well aware of the divisive nature of speculations spewed forth by Fetzer/Wood/Reynolds faction regarding directed energy beams and the demolition of the WTC towers.

A video interview conducted January 10th, 2007 at the National Press Club by Dr. Greg Jenkins, a PhD physicist, attempts to probe the lone 'scientist' who is the pillar behind these speculations. When questioned about information which is publicly posted on her website, Dr. Wood's responses ranged from evasive to juvenile. During one segment of the interview, Dr. Wood is presented with a photograph, her 'favorite' picture from her website, of the South Tower collapse. Her abysmal lack of analytical ability is clearly demonstrated as she attempts to describe what she observes in the photograph.

Jim Fetzer and Steve Jones are co-chairs of the group Scholars for 9/11 Truth. Their personality styles are clearly opposite. Dr. Fetzer is fearless and outspoken, willing to go toe-to-toe and win against blowhards like Sean Hannity. Dr. Jones is humble, soft-spoken and thoughtful, thinking through the consequences of his every word, a team player, a person of faith who walks softly but carries a big stick (of rigorous science and analysis).

But let's put aside the personality differences. And let's put aside discussion about one or the other of them being a disinfo agent or egotistical or a glory-seeker or a control freak or a gatekeeper limiting the allowable topics or a bully or a quack (these topics may be worth discussing elsewhere. Indeed, if one of them is truly a disinfo operative, then all bets are off). Let's assume that both scholars have good intentions -- to uncover the truth of 9/11 and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Let's just focus on the differences in their perspectives and philosophies.

But he appears to be persisting in what might be described as a "hostile take over" to control Scholars. Because this is going on behind the scenes and you would otherwise be unaware of this scheme, I am publishing this open letter on st911.org.

In light of Jim Fetzer's open letter to Steven Jones and the obvious diversionary/disruptive tactics of Morgan Reynolds and Judy Woods, it seems worthwhile to recall some early criticism of Scholars for Truth

The idea of Scholars For 9/11 Truth is a very powerful one, given the respect people give to credentialed individuals. Since November of 2005, Steven Jones has made tremendous progress in getting people to seriously consider the possibility that the World Trade Center skyscrapers were destroyed by controlled demolition, largely because of his qualifications as a professor of physics. Sadly, Scholars For 9/11 Truth might not have its intended effect of building on Jones' work. Instead it is likely to have the effect of discrediting it by associating it with junk science, such as that used to promote the no-planes theories. Because of the visibility of the flawed ScholarsFor911Truth.org website, this seems probable despite the good intentions and excellent credentials of many of the group's members.

UW-Madison lecturer Kevin Barrett will talk Sunday at the university about his controversial belief that the U.S. government was complicit in the 9/11 attacks, prompting two elected officials on Tuesday to again call for his termination.

Barrett, a member of Scholars for 9/11 Truth, will appear with another member of that group, James Fetzer, on Sunday at Van Hise Hall.

The talk, titled "A Folklorist Looks at 9/11 'Conspiracy Theories,'" is sponsored by the UW-Madison's Folklore Program. Fetzer, a professor at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, will talk about "9/11: What We Know Now That We Didn't Know Then." The talks are scheduled from 2 to 4:30 p.m., with the room to be announced.

State Rep. Steve Nass, R- Whitewater, repeated his calls for Barrett to be removed as a university lecturer. Nass also criticized the university's sponsorship of the lecture, which is non-financial. U.S. Rep. Mark Green, Republican candidate for governor, echoed Nass' call for the university to terminate Barrett, calling his views "absurd and slanderous."

I am posting this as a Blog entry so that it's more visible, since the original reply that I just posted to Jim Fetzer, is in the comments section of a topic that'll soon have disappeared from the main 911Blogger page. I want it to be more visible so that he sees it.

As someone of Fetzer's apparent intelligence, who pretends to be well researched, he couldn't honestly believe the non-evidence nonsense that he promotes, supports and propagates about the Pentagon, in an obvious, subversive effort to try to help destroy the work of real, honest, good intentioned people involved with 9/11 research and activism -- guilt by association being a primary motive. But not the only one.
