Hunt for Bin Laden "largely run by the ISI"

Former CIA agent's eight years hunting bin Laden in Pakistani badlands

Tim Reid in Washington

Art Keller, a blond, blue-eyed CIA agent, sits inside a decrepit building deep inside al-Qaeda territory, staring at his computer screen. He is forbidden by his Pakistani minders from venturing out into the badlands of Waziristan to help to find and kill the world’s most wanted man.

He is sick and exhausted, and suffering from food poisoning. Back home in the US his father is dying of cancer. The plumbing is basic, the heat intense — the generator has failed again. He pores over cables looking for any scrap of information — an intercepted phone call, an aerial photograph — that might finally end the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

The fruitless search has essentially been outsourced by the US to a network of Pashtun spies run by the Pakistani intelligence services.

Osama introduced Nawaz Sharif to Saudi royals: ex-ISI officer

Osama introduced Nawaz Sharif to Saudi royals: ex-ISI officer

PTI 6 September 2009, 07:15pm IST

LAHORE: Osama bin Laden introduced Nawaz Sharif to the Saudi royal family in the late 1980s and during a meeting the former Premier had asked the Al Qaida chief to provide employment to Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia, former ISI officer Khalid Khwaja claimed on Sunday.

Khwaja, who was close to Sharif in the late 1980s and early1990s, made the claim in an interview.

"During his first visit to Saudi Arabia as Chief Minister of Punjab in the late 1980s, no one from the royal family had given Sharif importance," he said.

"Thereafter, on Sharif's request, Osama bin Laden introduced him to the royal family and that helped him in getting closer to the Saudis," said Khwaja, who was a squadron leader in the Pakistan Air Force before joining the ISI in 1985.

"A close aide of Sharif family and I arranged at least five meetings between Sharif and bin Laden in Saudi Arabia.

2002 Karachi attack not Al Qaeda suicide bombing but by Pakistani military operatives

Now known as the "submarine affair" in France, it has transpired that Al Qaeda was willingly blamed by all sides while many knew it to be a lie.

A coach carrying French naval engineers and technicians was bombed as it left a hotel in Karachi in May 2002. The attack killed 14 people in all.

French magistrates Marc Trevidic and Yves Jannier had obtained a top secret internal memo in October 2008 from the state-owned shipbuilder which contained the allegations that the attack was orchestrated by unnamed Pakistani officials angry with France over non-payment of bribes tied to a defence deal.

It is healthy to see France taking the deaths of their nationals seriously enough to restore the dignity of the realtives who are entitled to the truth. The withheld truth about the 911 bombings mocks the bereaved of all nations' victims. An insult to our citizens by the government and media professionals -- to cover up for secret state elements of the US military who carried out the atrocities in New York and Washington.

Pakistani president Asif Zardari admits creating terrorist groups

Asif Zardari told a meeting of former senior civil servants in Islamabad, it was time to be honest about their deployment.

"Let us be truthful to ourselves and make a candid admission of the realities," he said. "The terrorists of today were the heroes of yesteryears until 9/11 occurred and they began to haunt us as well."

These groups were not thrown up because of government weakness, but as a matter of policy. He said they were deliberately "created and nurtured" as a policy to achieve some short-term tactical objectives.

His comments amount to an admission that Pakistan trained Islamic terrorists to launch attacks on India as part of its long war over its claim on Kashmir.

Pak Officials Behind Killing Of 11 French Engineers: Report

No, I DO NOT endorse the bombing of Pakistan by the United States. I think it should end immediately, and should have NEVER started. - Jon

Source: timesofindia.indiatimes.com

6/23/2009

LONDON: High-ranking Pakistani officials were behind the killing of eleven French ship-building engineers in Karachi seven years ago, two French judges have ruled.

Until now al-Qaida had been blamed for the bomb attack on a bus in 2002 that killed 11 engineers and three Pakistanis.

The judges suspected that the Pakistanis were retaliating over a decision by former French President Jacques Chirac, to halt payment to Pakistani officers of millions of pounds in secret commission from an 720 million pounds contract signed in 1994, for three French submarines, the Time reported on Tuesday.

The dead engineers were working on the submarine contract for DCN, the French naval shipbuilding enterprise.

The U.S. Government "Finally" Discovers The ISI's Link To Terrorism

Jon Gold
3/30/2009

On March 25th, 2009, the New York Times reported that the Taliban gets "direct support from operatives in Pakistan's military intelligence agency" [...] ACCORDING TO AMERICAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS (emphasis mine).

According to President Obama, these revelations "aren't new." As it turns out, he's right.

Over the years, there have been so many reports about the ISI's connection to 9/11, and to terrorism. The U.S. Government has been confronted on this issue on more than one occasion, and yet, NOW they are miraculously discovering this connection.

Press Briefing By Press Secretary Dana Perino - 12/1/2008

Is it my imagination, or is the White House protecting Pakistan? Also, look at what Condi said:

"What we are emphasising to the Pakistani government is the need to follow the evidence wherever it leads and to do so in the most committed and firmest possible way."

I'd laugh except it makes me too angry. - Jon

MS. PERINO: Good morning. The President is currently in the Situation Room receiving an update on the recent attacks in Mumbai. He also got an update on Iraq this morning. And as I announced last evening, Secretary Rice will travel to India on Wednesday, and I expect that she'll report back to the President upon her return, which I think is Thursday night, maybe Friday morning.

Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh And Lt. General Mahmood Ahmed Involved In Another "Terrorist Attack?"

From historycommons.org:

October 1, 2001: Kashmir Suicide Attack Involves 9/11 Funder Saeed Sheikh
A suicide truck-bomb attack on the provincial parliamentary assembly in Indian-controlled Kashmir leaves 36 dead. It appears that Saeed Sheikh and Aftab Ansari, working with the ISI, are behind the attacks. [Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, 3/3/2002; Vanity Fair, 8/2002] Indian intelligence claims that Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is later given a recording of a phone call between Jaish-e-Mohammed leader Maulana Masood Azhar and ISI Director Lt. Gen. Mahmood Ahmed in which Azhar allegedly reports the bombing is a “success.” [United Press International, 10/10/2001]
