I find it frightening how much focus is trying to discredit Dr. Jones. Let's focus on justice before we move on to theories in the public eye. We haven't caught the football yet, let's not run with it.

Clearly, the corporate media are promoting a flurry of 9/11 Truth hit pieces for a reason. What that reason is exactly, I don't know. Of course, Paula Zahn tried to smear 9/11 Truth with the brush of anti-semitism. CBS recently added a template hit piece, complete with references to aliens and Tom Cruise's baby. The CBS piece prompted a reply from Jim Fetzer.

Fetzer's response is as bizarre as the hit piece is typical. Consider his comments that appear in the first two paragraphs of this so-called news release:

“It [the CBS report] is chock full of false assertions, even including misidentification of Steven Jones, my former co-chair, as the society ’s founder.”

Filmmaker John Albanese, who is working on his upcoming film "Disinformation in the Information Age" will join DL Abrahamson on tonight's False Flag News radio on Republic Broadcasting Network (RBN).

False Flag News airs from 9-10 PM EST. The first half hour of the show will discuss the breakdown of the U.S. dollar, and the potential for diplomacy in Iran.

Then John Albanese will join the program at 9:30 to discuss his latest research and upcoming film. Topics will include the break-up of Scholars for 911 Truth, Jim Fetzer's controversial endorsement of "space beam" theories, message board disruptors, and concrete ways of winning the information war for 911 alternative research.

This is to inform you that I (along with chemist Kevin Ryan and many others)
have withdrawn from association with Jim Fetzer (JF) and "his" version of
Scholars for 9/11 Truth, and to provide reasons for this action.

1. On the Scholars web site he manages ( www.st911.org ), Jim Fetzer casts
aspersions on my research regarding the use of thermates at the World Trade
Center on 9/11/2001 -- which is fine as long as he provides serious technical
objections, which he has not done. At the same time, JF is promoting on the web
site notions that energy-beams from WTC 7 or from space knocked the Towers down.
I have invited Jim repeatedly to view the video of my talk given 11/11/06 at the
University of California at Berkeley which provides the latest physical
evidences for thermate use, reinforcing the data in my published paper. He

I just read that Fetzer has kicked out Steven Jones for censoring Rick Siegel. What I thought was particularly interesting was that he described this move as "temporary" until a
more formal structure for the Scholars can be implemented.

The fact that I could do such a thing as founder of Scholars, however, no doubt qualifies as another reason for the need for the society to incorporate and attain more formal structure.

That's straight from the horse's mouth.

I would ask why Fetzer decided to excercise this authority when he himself admits that his authority is illegitimate, but it's really a moot point.

The Scholars Group has imploded. I think it's time to take a good hard look at what's been going on in the name of Truth, and to reappraise the situation. Do we want to create a mini-industry with a star system? What are our larger policitical goals? Wehere should we be focussing our energies? Frankly I think we ought to be pushing for impeachment and for a new investigation as part of those proceedings. I also think the evidence of foreknowlege, the war games, and NORAD's lying to the commission ought to be front and center.

I wrote this, and sent it to Jim Fetzer and Steve Jones, yesterday.

Jim Fetzer and Steve Jones are co-chairs of the group Scholars for 9/11 Truth. Their personality styles are clearly opposite. Dr. Fetzer is fearless and outspoken, willing to go toe-to-toe and win against blowhards like Sean Hannity. Dr. Jones is humble, soft-spoken and thoughtful, thinking through the consequences of his every word, a team player, a person of faith who walks softly but carries a big stick (of rigorous science and analysis).

But let's put aside the personality differences. And let's put aside discussion about one or the other of them being a disinfo agent or egotistical or a glory-seeker or a control freak or a gatekeeper limiting the allowable topics or a bully or a quack (these topics may be worth discussing elsewhere. Indeed, if one of them is truly a disinfo operative, then all bets are off). Let's assume that both scholars have good intentions -- to uncover the truth of 9/11 and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Let's just focus on the differences in their perspectives and philosophies.

I wrote to Kevin Barrett and asked if he was planning on leaving Scholars for 9/11 truth. He wrote back the following. It seems written for public consumption so here it is:

As activists, when people ask us "what do you think of X theory about what happened," our answer should always be "well, that theory is no more improbable than the official story, whose probability is zero...but our job is not to prove what happened, but to show that the official story is demonstrably false, and force a new investigation."

The case of st911 is tricky, because it's dedicated to research more than activism. I think researchers have to be willing to allow other researchers to propose hypotheses, no matter how outlandish-sounding. The best response is evidence-based critique, not ad-hominem attack.

Morgan Reynolds, who was himself critiqued way too harshly by Jim Hoffman, seems to have caught the ad-hominem bug in his silly attacks on Steven Jones, which mix legitimate critique with ill-founded invective. I hope Steve can keep his cool and his trademark professional politeness, ignore the misrepresentations, and stick to evidence-based critique of whatever new hypotheses are proposed. So far Steve and David are the two researchers who have best combined lucid research with professional demeanor, and I don't expect that to change any time soon.

Meanwhile I hope to have Steve on the new GCN radio show "The Dynamic Duo" ASAP. I think a case can be made that my co-host on that show and st911 colleague Jim Fetzer is jumping the gun by prematurely hyping the exotic weaponry hypothesis, and I want to argue that activists should focus on the gaping holes in the official story, not exotic weaponry.

Above all, the format for proposed 9/11 debates needs to be a simple pro versus con on the 9/11 Commission Report -- that's the only debate that matters, and it's one we can't possibly lose.

In light of Jim Fetzer's open letter to Steven Jones and the obvious diversionary/disruptive tactics of Morgan Reynolds and Judy Woods, it seems worthwhile to recall some early criticism of Scholars for Truth

The idea of Scholars For 9/11 Truth is a very powerful one, given the respect people give to credentialed individuals. Since November of 2005, Steven Jones has made tremendous progress in getting people to seriously consider the possibility that the World Trade Center skyscrapers were destroyed by controlled demolition, largely because of his qualifications as a professor of physics. Sadly, Scholars For 9/11 Truth might not have its intended effect of building on Jones' work. Instead it is likely to have the effect of discrediting it by associating it with junk science, such as that used to promote the no-planes theories. Because of the visibility of the flawed ScholarsFor911Truth.org website, this seems probable despite the good intentions and excellent credentials of many of the group's members.

After this blog is posted, I will post Steve & Jim’s response to this proposal.  However, after some negotiation, the parties ultimately rejected the following Proposal, and none of the contained sub-proposals have been implemented (or at least, not fully).

9/11 Truth Takes Oshkosh!

Below is an abridged version of the text of Kevin Barrett’s talk at the
University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on 10/26/06.

Thank you for coming out tonight and supporting free speech and
academic freedom. I would like to thank the Oshkosh Campus Greens for
inviting me here tonight. And I would like to thank Steve Nass, Mark
Green, and the Wisconsin Republican Party, without whose ongoing
barrage of free publicity none of this would have been possible.

The Green party folks, unlike the Republicans, seem to know what
they’re doing. 9/11 skepticism offers an unprecedented opportunity for
third parties, who have been locked out of our system for too long.
9/11 was the most important historical event of the century. Yet polls
show that the American people, and the people of the world, simply do
not believe the government’s version of that event. A recent New York
Times poll showed that only 16% of the American people believe the
official story, meaning that 84% do not.
And a 2004 poll by Canada’s largest newspaper, the Toronto Star, showed
that nearly two out of three Canadians believe that top U.S. officials
committed high treason and conspiracy to mass murder on 9/11; while an
August, 2004 Zogby poll showed that half of New Yorkers believe the
same thing. A recent Scripps-Howard poll showed that 36% of Americans
believe that top US officials either perpetrated or allowed the 9/11
attacks in order to launch a war in the Middle East and Central Asia.
That 36% represents more Americans than voted for George W. Bush in the
last election, even if we believe the un-auditable figures of the
Diebold voting machines.

Madison, WI (PRWEB) October 23, 2006 --- Has the Fox television broadcasting network become an attack dog to silence critics of the Bush administration? A group of American citizens called Scholars for 9/11 Truth says yes. They charge that commentators on the Fox network, already known for its conservative bias, have maliciously compared the 9/11 scholars to terrorists and suggested that the FBI follow their members 24 hours a day, thereby contradicting the network’s motto of being "fair and balanced".

"The Fox News Network has gone to war with Scholars for 9/11 Truth," founder and co-chair James Fetzer said. "FOX has used ‘The O’Reilly Factor’ and ‘Hannity & Colmes’ as attack dogs against 9/11 truth-seekers. These broadcasters charge that we have supplied ‘material support’ for terrorists, which paves the way for us to be classified as ‘enemy combatants.’ That means that our members can be arrested and held indefinitely with no charges simply for questioning the government. That smacks of unAmericanism."

"If it can happen to us, it can happen to anyone," Fetzer said. "The situation is fraught with ironies", he added. "The President himself has admitted that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. The FBI has acknowledged that it has ‘no hard evidence’ relating Osama to 9/11. But if neither Saddam nor Osama had anything to do with 9/11, then who was responsible? That’s the question that we are trying to answer. Fox treats us as terrorists for wanting to know. There’s nothing ‘fair and balanced’ about these attacks."

"As the fires blazed and the temperatures rose within the buildings, NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) believes, the remaining core columns (those not severed by the planes during impact) softened and buckled, transferring most of the load to the building's outer structural columns. The floors . . . began to sag from the heat, pulling those columns inward and adding to the burden on the outer columns."

Debunking: For anyone who as actually watched the WTC video's carefully, you will note that the south tower was struck near the corner, almost insuring it sustained NO damage to the central core columns. It also had by far the largest fireball produced, indicating a substantially larger portion of the fuel was burned in the initial impact and for the most part outside the building. Oddly, it was the south tower which fell first after burning for only 55 minutes, and at a point when the fires had greatly diminished.

In addition, as given by Kevin Ryan who was responsible for the thermal testing of the WTC Steel when it was certified, the samples tested for the WTC were certified to withstand a temperature of 2,000 deg for 6 hours without failing their rated load characteristics. And that is without insulation. The WTC beams were insulated. Jet fuel burns at only 1200-1300 degrees with an ideal oxygen mixture, something not indicated by the black smoke that issued from the fires. There was nothing contained within the buildings that could have raised this figure, and those that use the example of ancient furnaces that tempered steel as a argument, again, do not understand the principles involved. I suggest that if you want the truth, and wish to actually act like a journalist for a change, you broach this subject with a real expert, Mr. Ryan. I can put you in touch with him upon request.

(KUTV) SALT LAKE CITY - It’s a local story – with ties to September 11th – that won’t go away.

Now, a BYU professor who believes a conspiracy was involved in the terror attacks on America is getting support from fellow scholars.

Physicist Steven Jones was put on administrative leave last week, because BYU officials were worried that his conspiracy beliefs are tarnishing the university’s image. The school also expressed concern over his research methods.

Jones believes that the hijacked airliners that crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 were not enough to topple the towers by themselves. He says the resulting fire simply did not burn hot enough to cause the structural damage necessary for the buildings to collapse.

Many have criticized Jones for his theory, but now an academic group is stepping forward to offer support.

A local chapter of the American Association of University Professors is criticizing BYU for its actions, saying that it restricts academic _expression of thought.

“The way that our institutions are supposed to work is, to raise questions,” said AAUP local founder Larry Anderson. “Let everybody else attack if they must.”

“This will help the information about his case get out to other people who are interested in academic freedom,” he added.

In response, BYU issued a statement saying that it “did not make its decision based on external pressure.”

Jones’ conspiracy theory is still generating some interest on the internet, among both supporters and critics – including Popular Mechanics, which says it can discredit any conspiracy theory.

SCHOLARS FOR 9/11 TRUTH ASSAILED - Members and movement attacked from several directions
