Yesterday was a special day for all of us who have supported the High-Rise Safety Initiative in any way. After three months of pounding the NYC pavement, we finished our petition drive.
We started petitioning on May 1st after three months of working to build support and collect donations. Thanks to the generosity and faith of so many supporters, we were able to raise enough in those early months to get the petition drive started on time. Still needing more funds to make it to our eventual goal of 100,000 signatures, your generosity continued to pave the way until this past week when we reached our final fundraising goal and then finished the job we set out to do.
All told, we gathered over 100,000 signatures from NYC voters between May 1st and July 31st, 67,000 of which were submitted on July 3rd, and 33,000 of which will be submitted on September 4th. We could not have accomplished this feat without you and your incredible commitment to this vital cause. For that, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Now the voters have spoken and it is incumbent upon the City of New York to honor their request for a measure to be placed on the ballot requiring the City to investigate the collapse of WTC 7 and any future high-rise collapses. We will learn next week whether the City will try to stand in the way of the voters. If it does, we are prepared to do battle in court, and we are confident of defeating what would be a baseless challenge to the petition.
In the meantime, let us celebrate and feel grateful for what we have accomplished. Thank you.

Plus: First petition to be submitted one week from tomorrow!
With one week to go before submitting our first petition on July 3rd, Crain's New York Business, a leading local business and politics journal, has published a story about the High-Rise Safety Initiative, which was also picked up by the Gothamist and Gawker. Followed by all of New York's business and political community, Crain's has a weekly print circulation of 50,000 and receives 300,000 unique visitors to its website each month. We are now on the map, but this is just the beginning - so stay tuned!
9/11 conspiracy group could force its way onto ballot

For years, 9/11 conspiracy theorists have been marginalized if not utterly ignored, producing blog posts and online films that gain little traction with the general public.
But a small nonprofit dedicated to uncovering the “truth” behind the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings is making a big push to get its issue in front of millions of voters. The group has gathered tens of thousands of petition signatures and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in an effort to force the city to investigate the destruction of 7 World Trade Center during the attack 13 years ago.
Ted Walter is the founder of the New York City Coalition for Accountability Now, (NYC CAN)-- an organization he started in 2009 with a group of 9/11 family members to advance the New York City ballot initiative for an independent commission to reinvestigate the 9/11 attacks. He has since served as the manager of Remember Building 7-- a TV advertising campaign aimed at exposing New Yorkers to the collapse of World Trade Center Center Building 7-- and he is now co-campaign manager for ReThink911.
Corbett Report Radio features Ted Walter of OccupyBuilding7.org, the latest idea from the Remember Building 7 campaign for raising awareness about WTC7, the third skyscraper to fall on 9/11/2001. ( Only covers Occupy Building 7 section. For full radio report: http://www.corbettreport.com/corbett-report-radio-011-occupy-building-7-with-... )
Post at 911debunkers.blogspot.com demonstrating that responses from a prominent "debunker" to the evidence pages at RememberBuilding7 are very misleading and false.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (WAMC) - The events of September 11th, 2001 have been the focus of questions and theories for years. Some would like to put the tragedy behind us, but others say they just can't do that until their questions are answered. Hudson Valley bureau chief Susan Barnett reports there is an effort to re-open the investigation in New York City that's gaining momentum. More information: www.nyccan.org
(The NYC Ballot Initiative has been reorganized, placing the further gathering of signatures for the petition in the hands of Ted Walter, one of the lead petition workers involved with the first phase of this project. He is joined by Frank Morales, who will safeguard funds for NYCCAN.org - Behind Walter and Morales are some familiar names; Donna Marsh O’Connor, Bob McIlvaine, Bill Doyle, Janette MacKinlay and William Rodriguez, who have formed an interim Executive Council for the coalition. This reorganization is the result of feedback that has effected change in the handling of the petition. NYCCAN also offers a new email address for further feedback, that will be accessible by the Executive Council. This could include opinions on the current membership of the commission, which can be changed once the commission has been established. Please feel free to distribute the Press Release below far and wide, and donate if you can. - rep.)
Press Release from NYCCAN.org:
April 9, 2009
Dear Friends around the World,
THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW
To place a public referendum for an impartial, independent and subpoena powered investigation of 9/11 on the New York City Ballot for the November General Election.
The 9/11 Commission was set up in 2002 to “provide the fullest possible account of the events surrounding 9/11”. What we got instead, in the words of Commission Chairs Governor Thomas Kean and Representative Lee Hamilton, was a Commission “Set up to fail”. A joint statement from both sides of the aisle is a rarity. This one speaks volumes.
AMERICA DESERVES BETTER
Today, over 66% of New York City residents support a new 9/11 investigation. Millions now know that critical questions were left unaddressed. Only an objective, independent, subpoena powered investigation can ask the right people the relevant questions the 9/11 Commission certainly did not. Only an impartial investigation, free from intervention and powered by subpoena, can deliver the answers that every American deserves.
