PETER'S NEW YORK, May 12, 2012--I recently procured a volume entitled "Modern Chemical Discoveries" by Richard Clements (1954, E.P. Dutton, 290 pgs.). It describes the advent of many new industrial processes at the time, and explains the manner in which they operate. It is a book targeted to the educated layman.

In a chapter entitled "Some metals and their compounds," it describes what we generally know as thermite, the nature of the chemical reaction associated with it, and its effects (p117-118).

"A mixture of aluminum powder heated with the oxide of another metal gives a violent chemical reaction. The aluminum is converted into oxide while the other metal is left in the metallic state. The action is so violent in some cases, copper oxide, for example, that a kind of explosion occurs and part of the metal is volatilized. Chromium is obtained in this way in a pure state, as also manganese which previously had been known only in combination with carbon or iron.

This May 10, 2011 interview of Dr. Niels Harrit, Associate Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen, was conducted by Michael Rudin of the BBC.

Apologies if this has already been posted, but in this interview, Harrit deals brilliantly with the persistance of Michael Rudin who tries to lead Harrit into speculation and straw man arguments.

Worth watching right through, or jump to 2hr 5 min 25 sec and hear Niels speak of why this case needs investigating. Really inspiring. And also illuminating - the interviewer jumps through hoops of his own making to hold onto his convictions.

Skyride Tower Felled by Melting Steel Legs

Intense heat was employed by wrecking engineers in toppling the 3,000,000-pound east tower of the “Skyride,” a major attraction of Chicago's Century of Progress. Huge “overshoes” in the form of cupolas made of steel and lined with firebrick were constructed around two legs of the tower and filled with 1,500 pounds of thermite, a mixture of aluminum and iron oxide. When fired by electricity the thermite generated a temperature of more than 5,000 degrees about the two legs, melting the ten-foot sections almost instantly, causing the tower to tip and then to crash. A microphone attached to the tip of the tower broadcast the noise of the fall by radio, and the spectacle was viewed by a crowd estimated at more than 100,000. The west tower had been wrecked several weeks earlier with dynamite. The 628-foot twin towers, the cables which supported the cars passing between them and the elevators cost more than $1,750,000 to erect.

Last september we did two thermite experiments here in germany. One with a steel pipe welded onto a flange of a HEB column, packed with 5 kilo common used thermite, the other with a "combustion chamber", with three sites of the reaction stalled. The outcome was very different.

In the first experiment the molten iron did nothing to the column, because it splashed away before it hit the surface. In the second the reaction lasted much longer and more concentrate, the column did glow afterwards in bright orange colour, indication temperatures between 850° and 1.000° centigrade.See my blog entry on it, translated to english language via google translator.

As a Full Professor of Physics at BYU, I reviewed dozens of scientific papers as an "anonymous" peer-reviewer.  I have reviewed papers since accepting early retirement from BYU in 2007. And I have published as author or co-author over fifty papers which have been subjected to peer-review. I noticed something in one of my previous clips (Jim Huibregtse clip_15B) that I thought was interesting. This is a zoomed-in view (and then slowed down) of the pyroclastic flow generated by the collapse of the South Tower. I added two red dots to help you locate two distinct 'white trail' ejections (see my earlier posts on white trails coming from the building pre-collapse) coming out of the pyroclastic flow. Do you see them? That seems odd, no? More thermitic reactions post-collapse?

I've been making my way through the batch of newly released videos by NIST and I thought these were quite interesting. They show multiple 'ejections' (for lack of a better word) from the WTC North Tower with a white trail of smoke burning behind them. Contrast these ejections with multiple other objects and debris falling from the tower that do not have any smoke trails, suggesting that there is something different about the 'white trail' objects. One hypothesis: We know that smoke from thermitic reactions burns white, and we know (e.g., Harrit, Jones, et al.) that thermite is prevalent in the dust from the collapses. Perhaps that's what you're seeing in this video.

In the second clip ("NY1 6 Raw 10"), pay attention to the first ejection, which falls at :32 into the video. It seems that there is no white smoke at first, but that as it's falling, the smoke starts. Perhaps a delayed thermitic reaction? Then you see more of the same on the right side of the video.

Dr. Jones is a well published professor of physics, and Mr. Ryan was previously employed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

They describe some of the findings they have published in peer reviewed scientific papers.

They argue that scientific evidence refutes the official conclusion by the National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST) that explosives were not involved in the collapse of the World Trade Center Twin Towers and Building 7 on September 11, 2001.

Many Americans are unaware that three buildings within the World Trade Center complex fell on Sept 11, 2001. Located just 300 feet from the North Tower,World Trade Center Building 7 (WTC 7) was a forty-seven story steel framed building, which collapsed vertically in 6.5 seconds more than 6 hours after the collapse of the Twin Towers. Although the collapse of the towers was televised hundreds of times in the days following 9/11, the collapse of WTC 7 was seldom shown or discussed. The widely publicized 9/11 Commission Report fails to mention the collapse of WTC 7 in its 568 pages. Looking beyond the limited information provided by the mass media about the fall of WTC 7, a number of questions arise.

Here is an old Hollywood reference to thermite from back in the early ‘50s. This is a clip from the 1951 movie “The thing from another world” or more commonly known as “The Thing.” The story begins as an Air Force crew (with a lone newsman (Douglas Spencer) tagging along) is ordered to fly up to a remote base in the North Pole to investigate reports of a mysterious aircraft crash. Led by Captain Hendry (Kenneth Tobey), the crew is greeted by a chilling Artic air, which serves as an omen of "things" to come. After examining the information available, head scientist Dr. Carrington (Robert Carthwaite) surmise that this craft it is not of this world and with the help of the good Captain decide to lead an expedition out to the crash site. Upon arriving at the crash site, their assumptions prove to be correct. The saucer now lies under tons of ice. Captain Hendry orders his crew to plant thermite bombs around the circumference of the ship to help melt away the ice.

In 1989 a patent was given for a device used to demolish submerged platforms.

In an "opinion" piece published online and in print in News Chief, a newspaper from Winter Haven, FL, a citizen reports on the Nano thermite story. Even though it's not an opinion, after all, a peer reviewed paper was published, many people seeing this for the first time might shrug it off, but eventually they might start asking, "Why haven't I seen this story on CNN?". This story made it to the top of News Chief's most read list of stories.

After his public lecture, we briefly explained the findings of the "Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the World Trade Center Catastrophe" peer-reviewed paper and politely asked him to review it.

The scientific paper Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe provides, quite simply, proof that explosives were used in the destruction of the Twin Towers. Specifically, the paper positively identifies an advanced engineered pyrotechnic material in each of several samples of dust from the destroyed skyscrapers, in the form of tiny chips having red and gray sides and sharing a very specific three-dimensional structure, chemical composition, and ignition behavior.

The basis and validity of this identification can grasped quickly by anyone with a working knowledge of physics and chemistry. They need only read the paper's one-page conlusion, and perhaps its section describing the provenance of the dust samples.

But what of the reader whose strong suit isn't the hard sciences? Does one have to be an expert to understand the findings and evaluate the many claims thrown up by "debunkers" to dismiss those findings?
