UNH trustees refuse group's demands to review prof's teaching
University of New Hampshire trustees defended professor William Woodward in response to a national organization's call for an intensive review of his teaching, including his controversial theory about the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
In a letter to the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, UNH Board of Trustees chairman Andy Lietz said a "careful review" of Woodward found his teaching consistent with accepted standards, "even though he has expressed some ideas that many find objectionable."

Regarding BYU Physics Professor and Co-founder of Scholars For 9/11 Truth Steven Jones, being placed on 'paid leave' last Friday (Sept. 8th) by the BYU administrators because of his 9/11 research in which he claims that the World Trade Center buildings #1, #2 and #7 were brought down by controlled demolition, Jones asserts that "thermate' was used in the implosions and that it must have been an inside job by some criminal faction of the U.S. government. BYU (Brigham Young University) was founded, supported, and guided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Oddly enough (cough, cough), just 9 days prior to Dr. Jones being placed on 'paid leave', on August 31st, George W. Bush was in Salt Lake City visiting The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' and meeting with the President Gordon B. Hinckley.

Scientists and engineers simulate jet colliding with World Trade

Researchers at Purdue University have created a simulation that uses scientific principles to study in detail what likely happened when a commercial airliner crashed into the World Trade Center's North Tower on Sept. 11, 2001.
The simulation could be used to better understand which elements in the building's structural core were affected, how they responded to the initial shock of the aircraft collision, and how the tower later collapsed from the ensuing fire fed by an estimated 10,000 gallons of jet fuel, said Mete Sozen, the Kettelhut Distinguished Professor of Structural Engineering in Purdue's School of Civil Engineering.
It took about 80 hours using a high-performance computer containing 16 processors to produce the first simulation, which depicts how the plane tore through several stories of the structure within a half-second, said Christoph M. Hoffmann, a professor of computer science and co-director of the Computing Research Institute at Purdue.
"This required a tremendous amount of detailed work," Hoffmann said. "We have finished the first part of the simulation showing what happened to the structure during the initial impact. In the coming months, we will explore how the structure reacted to the extreme heat from the blaze that led to the building's collapse, and we will refine the visual presentations of the simulation."
The researchers are analyzing how many columns were destroyed initially in the building's core, a spine of 47 heavy steel I-beams extending through the center of the structure, Sozen said.
"Current findings from the simulation have identified the destruction of 11 columns on the 94th floor, 10 columns on the 95th floor and nine columns on the 96th floor," he said. "This is a major insight. When you lose close to 25 percent of your columns at a given level, the building is significantly weakened and vulnerable to collapse."

Independents in conflict
There are devastating cases of conflict of interest in the commission. Chairman Thomas Kean may be the most obvious. The US$1 trillion lawsuit filed in August 2002 by the families of the victims of September 11 includes two of Kean's business partners among the accused: Saudi billionaires Khalid bin Mahfouz (who is Osama bin Laden's brother-in-law, no less), and Mohammed Hussein al-Amoudi. They are key financial players behind al-Qaeda: Mahfouz transferred millions of dollars from a Saudi pension fund to bank accounts in London and New York linked with al-Qaeda. He is a former director of BCCI, the bank in the center of a notorious $12 billion bankruptcy scandal during the presidency of Bush senior.
Kean is director and shareholder of Amerada Hess Corporation, an oil giant involved in a joint venture with Delta Oil of Saudi Arabia - which is owned by the clans of Mahfouz and Amoudi - to explore Caspian Sea oilfields. Amerada Hess severed the joint venture only three weeks before Kean was appointed chairman of the 9-11 Commission by his friend George W Bush.
It's unlikely fellow members at the 9-11 Commission will ask Kean to reveal to what extent he was aware of Mahfouz's links to al-Qaeda; or ask Amerada Hess to open its books and reveal what kind of deals it was cooking up with Mahfouz. After all, Bush himself also had a business connection with Mahfouz, owner of various investments in Houston, Texas. As to the 28 pages of the joint congressional committee detailing Saudi support to al-Qaeda, they also seem to have vanished into thin air.
The commission, for instance, also will not investigate the foreign policy that started it all in the late 1970s and early 1980s: the Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA's) full support to the hardcore international Islamic brigades which joined the jihad against the Soviets in Afghanistan - and then turned against the US after the first Gulf War in 1991. This would mean that the commission would have to seriously investigate Secretary of State Colin Powell and his number two, Richard Armitage, key players in those 1980s proceedings.
Former national security adviser to Jimmy Carter, Zbigniew Brzezinski, also one of the key members of the Council on Foreign Relations, was the mastermind behind the building of an Islamic network in Afghanistan - as part of a huge, covert CIA operation. To a large extent, the modern Islamic jihad exists thanks to Brzezinski. There are four members of the Council on Foreign Relations in the commission. There's hardly any chance of them investigating their fellow Brzezinski.
The commission's executive director, Philip D Zelikow, is a crucial player. This is the man who directs all the investigative research of the commission. On October 5, 2001 - two days before the beginning of the bombing of Afghanistan - he was appointed as one of the three members of Bush's foreign intelligence advisory board. Zelikow is the ultimate Bush insider.
Andrew Rice says that Zelikow "worked with these people and now he is defending them". Zelikow also worked for Jim Baker, former secretary of state of Bush senior. He spent three years on Bush senior's National Security Council. He is close to Bush junior, and even closer to Condi Rice: they worked together, and he even co-wrote two books with her.
Commissioner Jamie S Gorelick is very close to CIA director George Tenet. No wonder: she works on the CIA's National Security Advisory Panel, as well as on the president's Review of Intelligence. Tenet is one of the masterminds of the Bush administration "war on terror". This means no chance for the commission to investigate dubious covert operations by the CIA which may foment terrorism instead of fighting it.
Commissioner Fred Fielding is a former White House counsel during Reagan's time, at the time of the Iran-Contra scandal. He is very close to all major players in the Bush administration, in fact one of the White House men in the commission alongside Zelikow.
Commissioner John Lehman was navy secretary under Reagan. He served alongside two of the commission's key witnesses: Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage and former counterterrorism head Richard Clarke. He is close to all major players in the Bush administration and also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, with very close personal ties to Henry Kissinger. Lehman is Kissinger's man in the commission.
Commissioner Timothy J Roemer is a former member of the Intelligence Committee's task force on Homeland Security and Terrorism and the joint inquiry on 9-11 of the Senate and House. He is very close to Congressman Porter Goss and Senator Bob Graham, who co-headed the joint inquiry. Graham and Goss, as we will see on part 2 of this series, have very suspicious links to former Pakistani Inter Services Intelligence director Lieutenant General Mahmoud Ahmad.
If the intellectual masterminds of the "war on terror" in the Council on Foreign Relations won't be investigated, neither will be those members of the Project for a New American Century (PNAC). PNAC was prophetic in the sense that even before the Bush administration, in a 2000 white paper, their members were betting on "some catastrophic and catalyzing event - like a new Pearl Harbor" so the American people would support their agenda of global politico-military dominance. All neo-conservative superstars - like Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and his deputy Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle - are members of PNAC (see Asia Times Online, March 20, 2003, This war is brought to you by ...)
Clarke writes about their obsession on page 30 of his book: "I realized with almost a sharp physical pain that Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz were going to try to take advantage of this national tragedy to promote their agenda about Iraq." On page 231, Clarke recalls in vivid detail an April 2001 meeting where Wolfowitz is obsessed with Iraq, while the CIA dismisses the Wolfowitz-peddled notion of Iraqi terrorism and the State Department agrees with Clarke's assessment of al-Qaeda as "a major threat" and "an urgent priority".
Andrew Rice could not but be a serious critic of the commision: "It is not about transparency, it is just there to appease the public. But it won't appease me or many other family members. We need a truly independent commission that is outside the realm of government. The worst case scenario is that I fear this could be a whitewash and a coverup." The final report of the commission won't be published until April 2005 - long after the November presidential election.

Five years ago, on September 11, 2001, the George W. Bush administration and its allies and functionaries carried out the spectacular mass murder of 3,000 US citizens, establishing the pretext to unleash an unprecedented worldwide rampage of criminality, and a permanent war of conquest (the manufactured “war on terrorism”) that continues to escalate.
Five years later, the planners, operatives and beneficiaries of the 9/11 murders, led by George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, remain unpunished, their hubris undimmed, as they plan new campaigns of destruction, in the name of the original criminal act that they themselves carried out.
Five years later, in the wake of its 9/11 atrocity, the Bush administration has transformed the world into a literal hell.
Criminals occupy the top positions of power. The annihilation and conquest of nations, the cleansing of entire populations, and torture, are official policy. Criminal covert operations explode on a daily basis throughout the world, carried out (and blamed on) by “terrorists” created, guided and controlled by intelligence apparatuses (CIA, Pakistan ISI, “Al-Qaeda," Osama, etc.) beholden to no authority. Corruption poisons the fabric of modern society. The Constitution, a memory. Laws are broken. Or they are simply gutted and rewritten by the criminals themselves (giving them eternal power). Elections, routinely manipulated to begin with, are openly seized by force. America is a police state. Central Asia and the Middle East, in flames. The public is controlled with propaganda, distortion, and cover-up, while purveyors of truth, whistleblowers and investigative journalists are targeted for intimidation and assassination. Those who argue that there were no planes which crashed into the Twin Towers on 9/11 say that "computer generated imagery" (CGI) was used to insert fake video images of planes. However, these folks are forgetting something: there are numerous eyewitness reports of people who heard the planes.
In other words, for the no planes theory to be true, not only would CGI have had to be inserted in live videocamera feeds, and all of the witnesses who saw the planes be disinfo agents, but some sort of high-tech flying sound generator would have had to be used to fake the moving sounds of planes flying into the buildings.

The whole witnesses to the 2nd plane, including the amateur video makers themselves, have never been plausibly debunked by the no-planers. I asked them on the blogs several times, what about the witnesses, and back came nothing.

Union Leader story regarding Professor Woodward
My response to the Union Leader:
I read at unionleader.com this morning (Sept. 13, 2006), the article "UNH trustees refuse group's demands to review prof's teaching", By Scott Brooks, Union Leader Staff. First let me say, bravo to the UNH trustees for defending Professor Woodward.
The article quotes American Council of Trustees and Alumni president Anne Neal as saying, "We do not actively support professors who teach Holocaust denial or flat Earth. And certainly [9/11] conspiracy theories of this sort should not be viewed any differently."
I feel compelled to respond to Ms. Neal. Her words imply that one would have to be either naively or willfully ignorant to support a Holocaust-denial belief or a flat-Earth belief. I agree. We have proven the Earth is not flat, and there has existed for over sixty years extremely clear-cut, compelling evidence that the Holocaust indeed occurred. With regard to those two subjects, I too would not “support professors who teach” such proven-to-be-incorrect ideas (which by the way is different from raising an idea - even a known incorrect one - for a discussion), because they are not truthful.
However, comparing 9/11 conspiracy theories to the other two categories is inappropriate. There is no proof that the government's own officially presented conspiracy theory - and that's exactly what it is - is as clearly known to be true as that the Holocaust did occur and that the earth is not flat. No such proof was presented in the 9/11 Commission Report, which was to be the end-all discussion of 9/11 by “prepar[ing] a full and complete account of the circumstances surrounding the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks” [ http://www.9-11commission.gov/ ].
And Ms. Neal, if you think the Report does prove the government’s conspiracy theory, read the Report in the context of the public record. You will find that the 9/11 Commission Report is full of holes, lapses, ignored testimony, distorted facts, and information presented out of context. Rather than starting from scratch and striving for the truth, it appears to have started with the assumption that the official story is the given truth, and that all evidence and testimony needed to either fit that given truth, or be ignored.
Other theories do exist which better explain the evidence from that day, supported by further evidence of events surrounding, particularly in the years leading up to, 9/11/2001. Ms. Neal, have you ever looked into any of this or have you just accepted the government/commission's word at face value and labeled any other word on the subject the ravings of Holocaust-deniers and flat-earthers? Please, wake up!
It is the opinion of many critical thinking Americans, including myself, that we have been grossly lied to by our government, and that our government was in fact complicit to some degree in the 9/11 attacks. You think this is an outrageous statement? At one time, I did. I no longer do, because I did some homework.
Going through the transition of disbelief that your own mind is actually considering the unthinkable (US government complicity) is like momentary insanity. It is in fact, the process of “breaking out of the matrix”, if you will.
I suggest that you do your own homework to better educate yourself that this 9/11 issue is not all wrapped up in a nice, neat black-box package, courtesy of the government. You may discover that you are being naively ignorant of facts and evidence about 9/11 and its context which have led others to question the official government conspiracy theory. At that point, you will at least have a choice about being a critical and objective thinker, or transitioning from naive ignorance to willful ignorance.
I highly recommend as part of your homework assignment, these rigorously investigated works:
"The War on Truth: 9/11, Disinformation, and the Anatomy of Terrorism" by Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed
"Cover Up: What the Government is Still Hiding About the War on Terror" by Peter Lance
"The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions" by David Ray Griffin
“The Terror Timeline: … A Comprehensive Chronicle of the Road to 9/11 …” by Paul Thompson
There are other rigorous investigators as well. You will not find them coming out of the mainstream propaganda machine, which sadly is what our mainstream “free press” appears to have become. Those who have rigorously researched and written the results of their investigations have done the work that the 9/11 Commission was supposed to have done, but utterly failed to do.
These compelling investigative works are excellent fodder for a thinking mind. You really need to look for yourself. It is as clear as day that there are many critical questions about 9/11 that have yet gone unanswered. But do not take my word – or the government’s - at face value. You must do your own homework!
Ms. Neal, I suggest you think more critically the next time before you compare someone who does not swallow the government's oratory hook, line, and sinker, to a Holocaust-denier or flat-earther. Imagine someone saying of you that you actually see the emperor wearing clothes, without themselves looking first? Rather than make implied or explicit ad hominem attacks on Professor Woodward, and by inference on the above listed and other investigative authors, at least support your statements by in-kind rebuttals of their work. That’s something I learned in college.
It's petty to compare Professor Woodward with Holocaust-deniers and flat-earthers, as if you have cornered the market on the truth of 9/11 and anyone who doesn't know what you seem to "know" is a kook "conspiracy theorist". Remember, the government handed the people the first conspiracy theory - that 19 Arab hijacker/suiciders under the guidance of Osama bin Laden from a cave in Afghanistan perpetrated the 9/11 attacks. You do see, do you not, that this is a “conspiracy theory” (ie, a theory that explains an event or set of circumstances as the result of a secret plot by usually powerful conspirators) [ http://m-w.com/dictionary/conspiracy%20theory ]?
So drop the word “conspiracy” and ask which theories best explain the evidence of and surrounding the 9/11 events. Perhaps then you will not be so quick to label Professor Woodward as anything other than a critical thinking American who takes on the responsibility of asking questions in fearful and trying times.
