As one of the most thoroughly-documented examples of a decades-long program of officially-sanctioned false flag terror, Operation Gladio remains a woefully under-reported piece of the War on Terror puzzle. Today we go behind the trite summarizations of this program to look at it in-depth, examine its roots, and discover how it is continuing to operate right through to the present day.

Daniele Ganser Discusses Operation Gladio on "9/11 In Context"

On this week's "9/11 In Context" show, which airs Thursday, December 16, at 3pm ET, I will interview historian Daniele Ganser, an expert on Operation Gladio, the secret campaign by the CIA, MI6, NATO and national military secret services to control European politics by terrorist attacks.

Swiss historian and peace researcher Daniele Ganser, Ph.D. is the author of "Nato's Secret Armies: Operation Gladio and Terrorism in Western Europe" (Frank Cass, 2005). We will explore the relevance of the history of terrorism in Europe in the 1960s, '70s and '80s to an understanding of the 9/11 false flag operation.

New Documentary About Operation Gladio and False Flag Terrorism

Check out this excellent recent documentary, which has just been posted on the Internet, about Nato's secret armies that were set up across Western Europe after the Second World War. While these "stay-behind" armies were supposedly intended to help put together a resistance if the Soviet Union invaded their countries, they went on to commit terrorist attacks against their own populations, so as to influence domestic politics.

The international historical context of 9/11

Martin Summers, former East European projects officer for the New Economics Foundation and former Bosnian aid worker with CAFOD and Amnesty International joins some dots and places 9/11 within the historical context of international false flag terrorism with reference to Moscow apartment bombings, Northern Ireland, Operation Gladio, London Tube bombings, etc.

Operation Gladio: CIA Network of "Stay Behind" Secret Armies: The "Sacrifice" of Aldo Moro by Andrew G. Marshall

Through NATO, working with various Western European intelligence agencies, the CIA set up a network of stay behind “secret armies” which were responsible for dozens of terrorist atrocities across Western Europe over decades. This report will focus on the stay behind army in Italy, as it is the most documented. Its codename was Operation Gladio, the ‘Sword’.
An Overview

The Purpose of the ‘Stay Behind’ Armies

Framing Muslims in Turkey, Britain, Egypt and the Good Old USA

TIME magazine has finally put out an article that obliquely touches on False Flag terrorism;

Turkey Busts Alleged Murder Network

"...Veli Kucuk, a retired major general, was allegedly plotting to kill (Turkish author) Pamuk, Turkish newspapers reported. Kucuk is suspected of running a secret unit within police forces that carried out bombings and killings for which other groups were widely blamed. Also arrested was Kemal Kerincsiz, a nationalist lawyer responsible for numerous cases against Pamuk, Dink and other intellectuals. None of the suspects have spoken about the charges.
...

Most Turks have long suspected the existence of a covert web of elements within the security forces and bureaucracy who act outside the law to uphold their own political ends. There is even a household name for it: the "deep state," referring to a state within the state.

Newspapers have suggested that this network is the Turkish remnant of Gladio, a Cold War-era program, orchestrated by the U.S. in several NATO countries, to create a covert paramilitary force to counter Communist activities.
...

But the audacity and sheer scope of the allegations raises the unsettling question of whether the individuals arrested might just be the tip of the iceberg. "Who gave the orders? Who protected them for this long?" says Altinay. "We are faced with the possibility that this network existed. And, even worse, that it might still exist."

Operation Gladio: Interview With Daniele Ganser

(Norway's Le Monde Diplo has just produced a special 9/11 5th anniversary issue. It features several new articles including this new interview with Dr. Daniele Ganser by Diplo journalist, Kim Bredesen. We'll post the English translations as they come.)

False Flag Terrorism

A STATE WITHIN A STATE: Europe’s so-called stay behind organisations have committed numerous acts of terrorism against the civilian populations of their home countries – and outside parliamentary control. In a succession of “false flag” terrorist operations, the perpetrators always manage to somehow evade the police. These are strategies of tension that work from the premise that, with the aid of terrorist acts, the population will come to seek protection from the incumbent government. An example is provided by the activities of the secret armed organisation in Italy, called Gladio, headed by the military secret service and trained and supported by the CIA. There are also contemporary cases; in Basra in September 2005, members of the British Special Forces, the SAS, were arrested by Iraqi police. The Britons were dressed as Arabs, wore wigs and were in possession of a car full of explosives, which they allegedly planned to detonate by remote control in the midst of Basra’s crowded marketplaces. The British army stormed the Iraqi police station and liberated the SAS members. However, it is difficult to say whether or not such groups had anything to do with September 11th.
