Spying, Artificial Intelligence and Martial Law

http://georgewashington2.blogspot.com/2008/05/connection-between-spying-artificial.html

As a new article by investigative reporter Christopher Ketcham reveals, a governmental unit operating in secret and with no oversight whatsoever is gathering massive amounts of data on every American and running artificial intelligence software to predict each American's behavior, including "what the target will do, where the target will go, who it will turn to for help".

The same governmental unit is responsible for suspending the Constitution and implementing martial law in the event that anything is deemed by the White House in its sole discretion to constitute a threat to the United States. (this is formally known as implementing "Continuity of Government" plans).

As Ketcham's article makes clear, these same folks and their predecessors have been been busy dreaming up plans to imprison countless "trouble-making" Americans without trial in case of any real or imagined emergency. What kind of Americans? Ketcham describes it this way:

"dissidents and activists of various stripes, political and tax protestors, lawyers and professors, publishers and journalists, gun owners, illegal aliens, foreign nationals, and a great many other harmless, average people."

Do we want the same small group of folks who have the power to suspend the Constitution, implement martial law, and imprison normal citizens to also be gathering information on all Americans and running AI programs to be able to predict where American citizens will go for help and what they will do in case of an emergency? Don't we want the government to -- um, I don't know -- help us in case of an emergency?

Bear in mind that the Pentagon is also running an AI program to see how people will react to propaganda and to government-inflicted terror. The program is called Sentient World Simulation:

"U.S defense, intel and homeland security officials are constructing a parallel world, on a computer, which the agencies will use to test propaganda messages and military strategies.

Called the Sentient World Simulation, the program uses AI routines based upon the psychological theories of Marty Seligman, among others. (Seligman introduced the theory of 'learned helplessness' in the 1960s, after shocking beagles until they cowered, urinating, on the bottom of their cages.)

Yank a country's water supply. Stage a military coup. SWS will tell you what happens next.

The sim will feature an AR avatar for each person in the real world, based upon data collected about us from government records and the internet."

The continuity of government folks' AI program and the Pentagon's AI program may or may not be linked, but they both indicate massive spying and artificial intelligence in order to manipulate the American public, to concentrate power, to take away the liberties and freedoms of average Americans, and -- worst of all -- to induce chaos in order to achieve these ends.

Should We Trust These People?

The Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution in order to prevent tyranny, which they had experienced first-hand in the British monarchy. They knew that worrying about whether or not something was a "conspiracy theory" was a waste of time. What was important was making sure that there was a separation of powers so that no single group of people could gather too much power, and that individual freedoms were protected through a strong legal framework.

The Founding Fathers knew that merely trusting the government to protect the rights of citizens was a recipe for disaster, and that unless people's rights were rigorously protected, any government would slide back into tyranny.

As Congressman Peter DeFazio, on the Homeland Security Committee, recently said of the White House's asking that people trust it even though it was refusing to reveal details of Continuity of Government plans:

"They say, trust us. Trust us, the people who brought us Katrina, to be competent in the face of a disaster? Trust us, the people who brought us warrantless wiretapping and other excesses eroding our civil liberties? Trust us?" ... The American people need their elected representatives to review this plan for the continuity of government.

And as Senator Feingold recently stated, :

“More than any other Administration in recent history, this Administration has a penchant for secrecy. To an unprecedented degree, it has invoked executive privilege to thwart congressional oversight and the state secrets privilege to shut down lawsuits. It has relied increasingly on secret evidence and closed tribunals, not only in Guantanamo but here in the United States. And it has initiated secret programs involving surveillance, detention, and interrogation, some of the details of which remain unavailable today, even to Congress.

***

In a democracy, the government must be accountable to the people, and that means the people must know what their government is doing.... An executive branch that operates pursuant to secret law makes a mockery of the democratic principles and freedoms on which this country was based.

Concentrating within the same small group of people the powers to declare an emergency, suspend the Constitution, institute martial law, imprison Americans, spy on citizens, and model their behavior in times of crisis is not only unacceptable and dangerous, it is unAmerican.

It might be a good idea

for each citizen to have their own plan for COG. For example, for those living close to the Canadian border, they may want to change their allegiance to Canada if that government remains intact. Or they may wish to declare that, if the Congress, for example, has been incapacitated, that they will consider the U.S. government dissolved, and the authority of the executive no longer operative.

actions regarding martial law

At my website 911courage.org I list 17 911truth action ideas Here are #4 and#5 which address GW's excellent post

4) Personally visit you closest Department of Homeland Security office or mercenary warrior location to explain in a warm, friendly way why you shouldn’t be rounded up. If you’re going to be anything less than warm and friendly, don’t go. If you do go send me a recounting of the experience. If they won’t meet with you, go ask your Congressmember or Senator for help arranging it. Do videos about your efforts.

5) Write your relatives and friends advising them what to do in the case of roundup. I advised mine to contact my Congressman’s DHS staffer and listen to the recording of Paul Craig Roberts on Thom Hartmann. I also noted that if there is no manufactured excuse to invade Iran , I’ll have nothing to fear. I did this out of respect for my loved ones. My relatives didn’t take it well. They are Bush supporters and Christian Zionists. I believe it was an honorable act. I believe ALL 911truthers AND all antiwar activists ARE RISKING THEIR LIVES!!!!!!!!

Recently I attended a dinner and talk by Doug Feith, where he emphasized his commitment to civil liberties. I praised his commitment, identified myself as an adversary, and told him I feared being rounded up in the event of a major terrorist attack. He said I was wrong. I posted him offering to participate in a scripted interview where he assures truthers they won't be rounded up. He never responded.

Another idea from my friend No Guns is to arrange where in each city to gather in the event of a terror attack. It would involve petitioning for a legal encampment at(city hall, the biggest newspaper, a TV station) in the case of a terror attack. The idea is that it would be easier to be disappeared from your private abode than a VERY public place.

In addition, a comment on the widespread discomfort with discussions of civil disobedience throughout the 911 truth movement. It has always seemed disjointed to me to worry about one's career when you should worry more about your life.

Great Contributions....

GW, it's another great blog entry. You're definitely providing a service by keeping this shadowy issue of COG out in front! It's very important!

...don't believe them!

I have been worried

-sick- about this for a good while now. Periodically, my feelings of panic explode when I encounter another article about it. Today... again.

It is obvious that the elections are an irrelevant smoke-screen-distraction. It is equally obvious, in spite of the nay-saying denial of some (out there on other blogs) that this is the future of our now dead democratic republic. It is simply a matter of 'when'. It is beyond incredible to imagine that the main figures of this plan... like Rumsfeld and Cheney ... who have toiled to enact this for around thirty years ... will not pursue its fruition. Into a hideousness that is beyond comprehension.

Be sure that everyone who has ever posted here.... or anywhere else .... expressing anything contrary to the accepted memes, is on the 'list'. And probably anyone with whom they have ever 'consorted'.

There is no where to go (unless you might like to join Hugo Chavez in his fight against the NWO) and no where to hide. Fighting may appear to some to be better than running... in any case. But both paths appear likely to end in death.

Pardon my 'grim'.

Love, GeorgeWashington

Dear GeorgeWashington,

This is my second letter to you. The first was titled, "Jump, GeorgeWashington." In my first letter, I encouraged you to encourage the 9/11 community, and to jump hurdles too, rather than to (perniciously?) focus on failure.
(see http://911blogger.com/node/15374)

This letter is similar, except this time I encourage you to love, rather than to (perniciously?) provoke fear.

Although 911Blogger.com is about providing information to the 9/11 community, the 9/11 community is not merely concerned with "knowledge." While clearly you have "knowledge," the community has a wider goal - see http://www.stj911.org/jones/focus_on_goal.html (see the final paragraphs for a summary). Are you - maybe like those you have mentioned in this article - in the business knowledge, or in the business of truth, justice and peace?

Promoting the expectation of failure amidst the 9/11 community (my take on the first letter), as well as fear of government reprisal against citizens (my take on this letter), surely cuts the 9/11 truth community where it would hurt most: the concern that the government will just ignore people, and that the government will harm the 9/11 truth community.

Would you agree, GeorgeWashington, in your knowledge, that these are the sensitive points of the 9/11 truth community?

In my first letter, I encouraged you to carefully shape your rhetoric so as to encourage people - you had, I believe, focussed perniciously on failure, instead of on the wonderful hurdles the 9/11 community has overcome, and is overcoming.

In this second letter, I encourage you to shape your rhetoric so as to encourage love, rather than to focus on fear of harm. How could love be encouraged? Well, I believe you are good at rhetoric and innuendo, and I encourage you to try...

Your friend,
Dave.

courage

If you check out GW's website, he has a section on courage. You seem to argue that any discussion which would frighten activists should be avoided. Where do you draw the line for citizen's frightened by the basiv evidence of 9/11? We must agree that courage is more important than any one piece of evidence. The greatest lesson for me from the activism of my youth, opposition to nuclear power, was that if you make progress working against injustice, those who benefit from that injustice will defend themselves. Nonviolence is not about ignoring real threats. It's about refusing to hate perpetrators of such threats.
