Air America Show Poll Shows 90% Want Bush Crimes Investigated

Air America conducted a recent poll in which 9,000 or 90% of its respondents would like to see members of the Bush Administration do time in prison for alleged war crimes.

The poll was conducted in response to Joe Klein of Time Magazine's idea that a pardon from President Obama for George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld for War Crimes "would brand them for crimes without the agony of a trial."

For Air America's respondents, that is not enough. In addition to wanting members of the Bush Administration to serve jail sentences, some would like to see them serve those terms after being subjected to "enhanced interrogation techniques."

This has not been the first sign that many would like to see see the Bush Administration investigated. Just a week ago a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll of 1,027 respondents indicated that 38% wanted a criminal investigation while 24% favored an independent inquiry.

Calls for investigations did not surface after the Bush Administration left office. While top Democrats like Nancy Pelosi have opposed prosecution of the Bush Administration, 56 house Democrats signed a letter to then Attorney General Michael Mukasey calling for an war crimes investigation with regard to the administration's interrogation tactics last June. Also in the same month, Congressman Dennis Kucinich introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush.

President Obama has said very little as to whether he intends to support the prosecution of Bush Administration officials. The most he ever elaborated on the issue was during an interview with the Philadelphia Daily News, saying, "I would want to find out directly from my attorney general--having pursued, having looked at what's out there right now--are there possibilities of genuine crimes as opposed to really bad policies."

Personally, I'm sick of the torture/wiretap special prosecutor cause. If it opens the door to other things, great, but we've been pushing the same kind of thing with 9/11 for years. I almost feel like saying, "you didn't support us, then why should we support you?" CLEARLY there is incriminating evidence with regards to 9/11, and yet, that wasn't good enough for the afterdowningstreet.org, bradblog.com's of the world. Again, if prosecuting them for torture, and wiretapping opens the door to other things like 9/11, great. However, if that's all they're prosecuted for, and 9/11 is swept under the rug, then I will be ashamed to be an American.

Do these people deserve to know how and why their loved ones were murdered? Do we deserve to know how and why 9/11 happened?

I have the same sick feeling

I have the same sick feeling Jon. A prosecution/investigation for torture/wiretap is NOT acceptable.
N-O-T . NOT.

It would probably be welcomed by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Meyers etc. as the spin would be: "Sure we over-reacted. But after those Islamofascists murdered our citizens, isn't it understandable that we went overboard to protect the Amercan People?" That would be the spin.
And that would put a lid on 9/11 for a while longer. That's the name of the game: stall, stall, stall.
Obviously, the ENTIRE CONGRESS is culpable (with the exception of those who ACTUALLY BELIEVE the OCT.). I suppose there are a few of those.

So - how could Congress - who appropriated (and continues to appropriate billions) to sacrifice our own young men and women to kill Iraqis and Afghans and steal their resources, conduct a real investigation? Only Kucinich, perhaps Paul and Cynthia McKinny could do it.

HOWEVER - There is good news. The rest of the world is not going to take this forever. It is the International truth movement that will have the final word.

On the spiritual level, this tries our patience sorely. The upside is that the cultivation of patience is good for the soul, and that these severe and painful trials have purpose. (At least I sure hope so).

For us to put our faith in investigators who accepted Bush/Cheney's terms of "no oath, no records, and we testify together," would be denial on our part, equivalent to the denial of the those who believe the OCT. The Entire Congress accepted those terms.

All the above having been said, maybe I am wrong - about everything. After all, I believed the OCT for five years. G-d only knows which of my current beliefs are also an illlusion.

BTW - Great choice of music. The Times certainly are A' Changin.

However, if that's all they're prosecuted for, and 9/11 is swept

"However, if that's all they're prosecuted for, and 9/11 is swept under the rug, then I will be ashamed to be an American."

We are a nation of cowards when it comes to the UGLIEST TRUTH. Present company excluded, of course.

Of course.

here we go...

Senate to announce investigation of torture under Bush

"Plans to establish the commission still remain in their infancy, as senators and staff look at previous panels, such as the 9-11 Commission, and investigations following Watergate."
