While former Vice President Dick Cheney has been front and center in the media debate over the current White House's national security policies, he's not the only one trying to challenge the White House's message. The New York Times published a front-page article (5/21/09) that bolstered the notion that former Guantánamo prisoners "return" to terrorist activity.
The remarkably credulous Times story, under the headline "1 in 7 Freed Detainees Rejoins Fight, Report Finds," was based on a Pentagon report leaked to the paper before its release yesterday evening. The article emphasized the notion that former prisoners "returned to terrorism or militant activity"--without adequately explaining the definition of either term, or examining whether those former detainees were ever "terrorists" in the first place.
And as Talking Points Memo has noted (5/26/09), the Times' front-page headline claiming that "1 in 7" detainees had returned to the fight glossed over the DOD's own distinction between "confirmed" and "suspected" cases.
Psychologists Weigh In On 9/11

A new article in U.S. News & World Report quotes a couple of psychologists, one sociologist and one historian to argue that people who question the government's version of 9/11 are prone to false thinking.
Initially, remember that, while there are many honorable psychologists and psychiatrists, psychologists helped to create the U.S. torture program, and actively participated in it.

Because some people are too stubborn or too stuck in dysfunctional thinking patterns to hear the truth even when it hits them over the head, I suggest that we try a different approach: parody.
When a comic, like Stephen Colbert, does satire -- an exaggeration of what's being said -- it can wake us up, so that we can see the truth and laugh at how we've been acting. That can give us the freedom to stop doing the same dumb thing and to try something new.
So put satirical slogans on stickers, emails and freeway blogs to snap people out of their coma, like (by way of example only):

I may have to abandon The Crimes of the State Blog, hosted on blogger, a subsidiary of google. I can no longer get logged in without it kicking me off of TOR (The Onion Router), therefore it appears to be trying to compromise my anonymity.
Google has long been set to not search for certain types of IP ranges, such as anonymous browsers and those on TOR. The company actively denies service to those it can't track. This is a fascistic approach, and a fascistic mindset that is in direct violation of their supposed company policy to "not do evil."
This is indicative of a complete surveillance culture that affects us all, and will do so for the rest of our lives.

DENVER – (May 26, 2009) – 9/11 Press for Truth, an independent documentary that claims a 9/11 cover-up, has been shown in theatres and broadcast overseas, but it hasn’t been aired on a U.S. broadcast station.
That will change next week when KBDI-Channel 12 premiers the controversial documentary Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m.
During Channel 12’s premiere, Bob McIlvaine, who lost his son Bobby at the World Trade Center, and 9/11Press for Truth producer Kyle Hence will join KBDI-Channel 12’s Shari Bernson in KBDI’s studio.

We all have been tirelessly screaming about issues related to Congressional leaders abdicating their main responsibility of ‘oversight.’ We have been outraged for way too long at seeing ‘no’ accountability whatsoever in many known cases of extreme wrongdoing. I, and many of you, believe that the biggest reason for this was, and still is, the lack of true journalism and media coverage -- which acts as the necessary pressure and catalyst for those spineless politicians on the Hill and in the Executive branch. Or, at least it's supposed to. So, in our book, the MSM has been the main culprit.
Well, here is a chance to turn the tables.

Controversial Group Re–Examines 9/11 In Clovis By Clint Olivier
FRESNO - More than a hundred people filled the Clovis Veterans Memorial Building to hear a call for an investigation into what happened to the buildings destroyed in the attacks of September 11th.
"We realize that this is very difficult information to take in," Architect Richard Gage said.
Gage spoke and presented evidence on why his group, Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth wants the U.S. Congress to look into how and why the Twin Towers and another building, known as WTC-7, fell.
Some video was provided to KMPH News by the group, which claims a membership of more than 600 architects and engineers.
"We're not conspiracy theorists, we are technical building professionals looking at the forensic evidence, so we provide the evidence, and we ask for a new investigation, and let's let the chips fall where they may," Gage said.
Andrew Isolano is a retired New York City firefighter who watched the events of September 11th from the roof of his fire station in Brooklyn, before he was sent to ground zero.
