Holt on anthrax mailings: Investigate the investigators

By Daniel Tencer

Published: August 1, 2009

Until the US holds a “broader inquiry” into the investigation of the 2001 anthrax mailings, US House Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) won’t be satisfied that there isn’t a mass killer on the loose in his home town.

Holt — whose 12th Congressional district of New Jersey includes a postal facility from which some of the anthrax letters were mailed during the 2001 biological terrorism scare — says that the FBI “suffers from a credibility gap” because of the many mistakes made by the bureau during its long investigation into the first serious case of biological terrorism on American soil.

“If the technical and scientific procedures [used by the FBI] are as flawed as the non-technical procedures, they certainly deserve a look,” the Frederick, Md., News-Post quoted Holt as saying.

Demolition In Turkey Goes Wrong and Building Falls Over Sideways and Onto Its Roof

The video is on a BBC video player which I don't think can be directly embedded, so here is the link.

A plan to demolish a building in Cankiri, central Turkey went badly wrong when the 25-metre high structure rolled over onto its roof.

The building, a flour factory built in 1928 which had been idle since the 1980s, was scheduled to be demolished to make way for a shopping centre.

No-one was reported to have been injured.

Art, Truth, Masks, Deception, and Power

I have always loved art, theater, dance, literature, and poetry. Inspired by stories and ideas in my youth, I voyaged around the world on a sailboat to discover for myself the difference between childhood dreams and reality.

I tried to learn how to paint, but eventually gave up when I realized that nothing I could do on canvas could compete with the sheer beauty of a tree, so I turned to writing instead. In general, modern art left me cold; it struck me as lacking spirit and meaning, and seemed rather commercial. While in China in 1983 I fell in love with the works of the Chinese artist Huang Ge Sheng. I brought his paintings, and eventually the artist himself, to the United States where I organized art exhibitions in California and Hawaii. The exhibitions developed my skills in public relations, learning how to get the attention of magazine editors, television news stations, radio stations, and newspapers.

I Support NYCCAN

This is my endorsement of the NYCCAN initiative. It's obvious that I endorse the initiative from the amount of NYCCAN posts I've made but this is a different kind of endorsement.

Today, an "anti-truther/debunker" site posted the letter (thanks to Loose Nuke for this version) written by the City Clerk that explains why they didn't allow the petition on the ballot.

The reasons given were:
