Jesse Ventura, the former Minnesota governor and professional wrestler, accompanied a state senator to Arizona’s 9/11 Memorial on Thursday to press his claims that the government isn’t telling the truth about the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

“I think it’s growing and growing with the population that more and more of us are questioning what happened that day, and we’re also looking to find out if the truth was withheld from us,” Ventura said. “And the more you study it, the more difficult for me it becomes to believe what my government told me.”

A handful of people were at the memorial as Ventura spoke, some to support him and others simply marking the seventh anniversary of the attacks. Ventura was also in the Valley to give a speech and attend a book-signing event.

Local singer-songwriter and Humboldt State University graduate Jesse Goplen will perform his trademark “Old-Time Country Blues for a New American Century” live at 7 p.m. on Thursday at HSU’s Kate Buchanan Room.

Concertgoers will be among the first to hear new, unreleased tracks from his upcoming CD titled “Cowboy.” Songs like “Cowboy” and “Freedom’s Twilight” are indictments of the post-9/11 era.

“Highway 101” stands out as the lone Humboldt County anthem, while “Didn’t You Know?” asks listeners to consider Willie Nelson’s critique of the official 9/11 story.

“I’m looking forward to a relaxed show where I can really talk about the stories behind my new songs,” Goplen said.

Goplen will also perform songs from 2007’s “September Eleven Blues” and his earlier recordings. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion hosted by 9/11 Truth HSU. There will be a screening of the new 9/11 documentary “Fabled Enemies” following the concert.

Tom Morello, guitarist with rock protest band Rage Against the Machine, spoke out against false flag terrorism on the same day an impromptu performance by the band was shut down by police outside the RNC.

Morello spoke briefly to members of We Are Change Tuesday just before appearing at an event being held by independent candidate Ralph Nader in St. Paul, Minnesota.

"When the media speaks of terrorism it tends to be in the context of lone bandits from middle eastern countries when most of the terrorism that occurs in the world is government sponsored." Morello told Change reporters.

"Whether it's the Bush administration or the Putin administration, terror is not something that is unfamiliar to governments."

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff was at federal court Thursday for sentencing in a public corruption case that upended Washington politics and contributed to the Republican loss of Congress in 2006.

Abramoff faces up to 11 years in prison for trading expensive meals, golf junkets, luxury sports tickets and other gifts for political favors. But because he became the key FBI witness in his own scandal, he and the government are asking for much less time.

"I have been thinking about this moment literally for years," Abramoff wrote a federal judge Wednesday.

He said even he is shocked to look back on what his career had become. But he said he was "not a bad man" and pleaded for leniency.

Well, now we know. Thank goodness, too. For the past seven years it's just been driving me crazy. How in the world did WTC number 7 manage to collapse if it was not hit by anything during the 9/11 attack and no explosives were set deliberately. Sheesh, what a mystery . . .

Well, a report by engineers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in suburban Washington was released today and the cause was . . . a fire 400 feet away. Yeah. There you go. A fire up the street a ways. Got it. Wow. So simple. How'd I miss it? I'm embarrassed. According to the New York Times today " . . . investigators determined that debris from the falling twin towers ignited fires on at least 10 floors at 7 World Trade Center, which was about 400 feet north of where the city’s two tallest buildings once stood. The blazes burned out of control for six hours, as the city fire department, devastated by the collapse of the twin towers, abandoned its efforts to extinguish the fire, and the sprinkler system was incapacitated."

The attacks resulted in some 1500 civilian deaths, according to both Russian and Western sources. "The air and artillery bombardment left the provincial capital without water, food, electricity and gas. Now that military officers selected by the Bush Pentagon have reached a split verdict convicting Salim Hamdan, a onetime driver for Osama bin Laden, of supporting terrorism, but innocent of terrorist conspiracy, do you feel safe?

Or are we superpower Americans still at risk until we capture bin Laden’s dentist, barber, and the person who installed the carpet in his living room?

The Bush Regime with its comic huffings and puffings is unaware that it has made itself the laughing stock of the world, a comedy version of the Third Reich.

Hamdan was not defended by the slick lawyers that got O.J. Simpson off, and he most certainly did not have a jury of his peers. Hamdan was defended by a Pentagon appointed US Navy officer, and his jurors were all Pentagon appointed US military officers with an eye on their careers. Even in this Kangaroo Court, Hamdan was cleared of the main charge.

The operator of a leading alternative news and strongly anti-war website has become the target of nefarious thugs apparently in the employ of the U.S. government who have continually harassed him and ordered him to shut down his website.

Tom Feeley, owner and editor of InformationClearingHouse.info, has endured public harassment, home invasions, death threats and threats to his family simply for running a website.

Counterpunch writer Mike Whitney has circulated an e mail describing what happened to Feeley in an attempt to draw attention to the matter.

You know, I don't care if it's not proper for a Congressional candidate to say: "horseshit." I don't care if it is not a good "tactic" to get kicked out of a Congressional non-impeachment hearing that was just a bunch of horseshit anyway. I don't care if I get accused of being too "extreme" for bucking the (cyst)em by doing everything from camping in a ditch in Crawford, Tx to non-violent civil disobedience to, lately, running for Congress as (oh no!) an independent.

If people can't see how this nation is teetering on the precipice of financial ruin and dragging the rest of this planet down with us as we destroy our ecology, too…and if people don't realize how desperate our situation is, then I must say, that's horseshit!
