In 2000, the long fought for and long admired democracy of the United States of America began a slow and steady decline toward fascism - a Bush family tradition - with the installment of a president - a man the citizens overwhelmingly rejected (although the funny math told a still believed myth) - by a few corrupt judges on the US Supreme Court. That coup is now nearly complete and checkmate is all but unavoidable.

Let me first point you to the Bush administration's so-called Wall Street bailout bill, here, so that you can see for yourself that this treachery is being conducted in the light of day. Fascism is finally and formally out of the right-wing closet even if the F word is not yet openly being used (although it should be, and often).

Bernie Cornell speaks in a raspy voice, without the boom it had before.

That was one of Cornell's trademarks, a voice that wrapped you in a bear hug, no matter the topic.

Cornell's thyroid cancer is the topic these days. And the potential connection between the Sept. 11 attacks and his illness. And his future as a lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department. He's based in Brooklyn.

Cornell, once a slugging third baseman at Merrimack Valley High and Plymouth State College, was diagnosed with cancer last spring, nearly seven years after he helped clean up the mess in lower Manhattan.

His thyroid was removed in June, leaving him cancer free. But his vocal cords were damaged during the surgery, leaving him with no voice, not even a whisper.

He can speak now, but Cornell remains out of work. The spirit and hand movements behind the voice and words are still there, but Cornell can't be a firefighter again unless he can communicate clearly. And there are no guarantees.

Congress hopes to pass the $700 Billion bailout bill by Friday, according to an article in Bloomberg.

In case you haven't heard, the bill would not only stick up American taxpayers for an additional $700 billion, but would literally give Paulson and the government fascist powers.

Don't believe me?

Well, as the Bloomberg article notes: "The bill would bar courts from reviewing actions taken under its authority."

Bloomberg includes the following quotes by people who understand the significance of the bill:

It sounds like Paulson is asking to be a financial dictator, for a limited period of time,'' said historian John Steele Gordon . . . .

Seven years after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, the remains of 13 of the 19 men responsible have been identified and are in the custody of the F.B.I. and the New York City medical examiner’s office.

But no one has formally requested the remains in order to bury them.

“Politically, one can understand that this is a hot potato,” said Muneer Fareed, secretary general of the Islamic Society of North America and a former professor of Islamic studies. “People don’t want to identify with the political equivalent of Jeffrey Dahmer.”

What would happen if someone asked for the hijackers’ remains is not clear.

German Historian Andreas Hauß has handed in a complaint of an offense to the german authorities concerning the attacks of 9/11.

The complains accuses Pete Zalewski, Glenn Michael (ARTCC Boston Center), Stacey Taylor, Richard Kettell (ARTCC Cleveland), Ben Sliney, FAA HQ Herndon Va., Senior Airman Stacia Rountree, Tech Sergeant Shelley Watson, Master Sergeant Maureen Dooley, Jeremy Powell, Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Nasypany, Lt. Col. Dawne Deskins, Otis ANG Commander Quenneville, Lt. Col. Timothy Duffy, Maj. Daniel Nash, Lt. Col. Brad Jackson, Lt. Col. Steve O’Brien, Captain Charles M. Leidig, Brig. General Montague Winfield, NMCC, George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz and others of suspicion of murder. The complaint has been approved and forwarded to the attorney general for further investigation.

While this will obviously will have no effect whatsoever, it might still be interessting to see how the german authorities will justify their non-actions. This is the original letter that confirms the entry for the complaint:

Finally: One Brave Newspaper Refuses to Distribute 'Islam Terror' DVD

I wrote here Saturday about the "Islam terror" scaremongering DVD Obsession that the Clarion Fund has paid dozens of newspapers across the country -- almost solely in "swing" election states -- to distribute, many of them quite large in cities such as Miami, Philadelphia, Denver and Pittsburgh. (HuffPost was one of the first to be on this.) My posting was updated yesterday when many more papers sent it around. An estimated 28 million copies have been distributed so far, also through the mails and other magazines. An article at the group's site, www.radicalislam.org, all but endorsed John McCain this past week, then was pulled down.

But at least one newspapers turned away the money and refused to distribute it, calling it "divisive."

It's the Greensboro News & Record in North Carolina, which was one of the first mainstream dailies to really plunge into blogs and other Web-related community things. The longtime editor, John Robinson, explained his reasoning in a column yesterday.
