Conspiracy buffs dispute motives, causes of attacks

Somerset County Coroner Wally Miller has no time or patience to talk about conspiracy theories linked to the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Six years later, he's furious about lingering suggestions that Air Force fighter jets shot the plane from the sky, leaving a trail of debris and human remains over the fields surrounding Shanksville and into nearby Indian Lake.

"The plane crashed. People died. There was debris in Indian Lake. There were no human remains in Indian Lake," Miller said. "I'm not going to get into any conspiracy theories."

Although voluminous evidence exists that proves Islamic hijackers plotted and carried out the Sept. 11 attacks, numerous myths continue to find an audience among people who insist Americans are being denied the truth about what really happened that day in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

The world awaits the publication of "UK engineer" Keith Seffen's "analysis" of the WTC "collapse", as promised by the BBC in an article of September 11.

The BBC piece, as I mentioned last Tuesday, was changed after it was published. The original version said that Seffen's "findings are published"; the second version says Seffen's findings "are to be published". So, while we wait to find out whether the findings will actually be published, we can't do much more than look at the press release from the University of Cambridge, upon which the BBC article is apparently based.

Aside from the obvious impropriety of reporting on a scientific paper before it's been published, virtually every paragraph of the press release is either misleading or downright false.

Caught this on Counterpunch this morning, and started reading, but then its core dishonesty became tiresome, so I thought I would offer it for dismantling and public response (his email address is at the bottom).

Britain's 9/11 "Truth Movement": Who's Responsible?

As the sixth anniversary of the September 11 attacks passes the 9/11 conspiracy industry shows no sign of decline. While most adherents to the various conspiracy theories reside in the United States and the Middle East, the conspiracy circus - or "the 9/11 truth movement" as it styles itself - is an increasingly visible presence in the UK. Initially an internet based affair, the UK conspiracy advocates have developed national and local campaigning groups who organize public meetings, teach-ins and film showings and they have become a visible and vocal presence at anti-war demonstrations. Their most high-profile supporter and organizer in the UK is David Shayler, the former MI5 operative and recent converts to the cause include the journalist Robert Fisk and gay rights and anti-war activist Peter Tatchell.
