free trade in North America has resulted in sharp gains for the rich at the expense of the average Canadian worker, says a report from the U.S. Economic Policy Institute released Thursday.

In fact, lower-income Canadians are worse off than they were before free trade and cuts to federal social programs at the same time have compounded the problem, said co-author Bruce Campbell, executive director at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.

The Ottawa-based think-tank is an independent non-partisan organization that promotes research on economic and social policy "from a progressive point of view" - according to its website - and concerns about social and economic justice.

Similarly, the U.S. institute carries out economic research and education, with a "concern for the the living standards of working people."

While trade between the NAFTA partners has grown rapidly, the free trade deals have not helped all workers, the report says.

"The most striking feature of this growing inequality has been the massive gains of the richest one per cent of income earners at the expense of most of the population," said Campbell, who called for a major assessment of the costs and benefits of the North American free trade Agreement.

"Economic and political elites promised that free trade would usher in a golden era of prosperity for Canada. It clearly has not delivered the goods."

The institute's report found similar problems in Mexico and, to a lesser extent, the United States.

"In each nation, workers' share of the gains from rising productivity fell and the proportion of income and wealth going to those at the very top of the economic pyramid grew," said Jeff Faux, founder of the Washington-based think-tank.

NAFTA came into effect in 1994, five years after the Canada-U.S. free trade deal. In 2005, two-way trade between Canada and the United States approached nearly $US500 billion, while U.S.-Mexican trade amounted to about US $290 billion, both figures sharply higher than when the trade deals began.

Campbell said both agreements were supposed to boost living standards, help close the productivity gap with the United States, create a more efficient economy and strengthen Canada's social safety net. Yet, there is no evidence Canada gained a special advantage in the American market, said Campbell, and the country's share of U.S. imports actually fell after 1994.

Big business, though, has done well. A study of 40 non-financial member companies of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives found their combined revenues jumped 105 per cent between 1988 and 2002, while their overall workforce shrank by 15 per cent.

The wealth hasn't trickled down, said Campbell, despite steady productivity growth in the Canadian economy. "If free trade was supposed to usher in a new era of rising living standards, reversing the sluggishness of the 1980s, the record reveals quite the opposite."

WMR spoke to a number of individuals who were at Ground Zero on 911 who are now experiencing symptoms resulting from severe damage to their immune systems -- a condition that is common among those exposed to high levels of radiation.

NORAD launched Canadian and American fighter jets to intercept two Russian bombers near U.S. airspace, officials said Friday.

Russian military officials had warned the United States the bombers would be conducting an exercise in the region. But as the planes crossed a 20-kilometre buffer zone around U.S. airspace, the NORAD planes moved in.

At about 6 p.m. ET Thursday, NORAD scrambled three pairs of fighter jets -- including two CF-18 jets from Cold Lake, Alta.

The American aircraft included four F-15s from Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska.

"It was the Americans who found the bombers first. They came to within metres of the bombers," reported CTV's David Akin. "There was no radio contact. After a period of time, the Russians turned and went home."

Canadian Action Party held its 2006 Convention in beautiful Victoria, B.C. this past weekend where the membership recommitted their patriotism towards Canadian Sovereignty and all matters critical to Canada remaining free, democratic and peace-seeking.

Leader Connie Fogal began Saturday’s session with a passionate explanation of the true reality Canadians are facing today, and affirmed CAP’s intention to restore Canada to its free, democratic state. [... ]She connected the dots between the failure of full investigation and disclosure of the events of 9/11, the police state laws created after 9/11, their trail to the North American Union, and the dangerous power of the military / industrial complex feared by former US President Eisenhower.

Policy Highlights

1) Call for a Royal Commission to investigate the full analysis of the September 11, 2001 incident known as 9/11; e.g., investigation of the free fall of three towers in New York, one of which was not hit by a plane, the failure to deploy interceptor planes, failure to heed advance security warnings from many countries. Canada has been negatively impacted by that event in several ways including a) the creation of liberty stripping anti-terrorism laws, b) the bureaucratic incremental integration of Canada with the USA into a North American entity with police state Emergency Preparedness Laws, a Smart Border Agreement, a Security and Prosperity Partnership Agreement , 3) the redefinition of Canada's military role from peacekeepers to aggressors, 4) justification of Canadian troops dying in Afghanistan, 5) the redirection of tax money away from supporting the Canadian safety net of social programs to funding a war machine.

2) A call for the Canadian government to cease immediately all its actions that are merging Canada into a North American entity, and a defence against the takeover and loss of our nation occurring via the implementation of a North American Union, without the consent or knowledge of the Canadian people..

3) A recommitment to the abrogation of NAFTA since NAFTA is the model for an integrated Fortress America focusing on military, immigration, defence, foreign affairs, harmonized health, policing, judicial, legal, as well as expanded economic and financial integration.

4) Support the Troops by immediately calling them home and removing them from cooperation with the U.S. invasion and occupation of Afghanistan

5) To call for the cessation of the militarization of Canada, and the expansion of a war budget, and return to the financing of health, education, housing, infrastructure, municipalities etc.

6) A sharper focusing on the immediacy of an endangered world from fossil fuels and global warming, with a practical call for a commitment to create a Canadian industry to manufacture Electric Cars in Canada

7) A call for rejection of the "AMERO", or any other North American currency, or the U.S. dollarization of Canada 's money supply, and a recommitment to the use of the Bank of Canada to protect our sovereignty over the Canadian economy and money supply

8) A call for the return of statutory reserves.

9)Commitment to prevent the use of Electronic Voting Machines in Federal Elections.

10) Make every effort to field 308 candidates in the next federal election.

11) Committee examination of and recommendation for implementing Direct Democracy within the party and national government, including a Swiss Style referendum process to be put to CAP/PAC membership for vote by referendum.

12) An expansion of policy detail respecting the CAP/PAC call for the rescission of all existing legislation and pending legislation that dismantles civil liberties including anti-terrorist legislation.

13) A new party logo.

l4) A motion to support the coalition against Israeli Apartheid was referred to the policy committee for more detailed consideration to be put to the membership within 30 days.

Most of the world has now seen the infamous picture of President Bush tending to his ranch on August 6, 2001, the day he received the ultra-classified Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) that included a report entitled “Bin Laden Determined To Strike in US.” And most Americans have also heard of the so-called “Phoenix Memo” that an FBI agent in Phoenix sent to FBI headquarters on July 10, 2001, which advised of the “possibility of a coordinated effort” by bin Laden to send students to the United States to attend civil aviation schools.

As a Counsel to the 9/11 Commission, I became very familiar with both the PDB and the Phoenix Memo, as well as the tragic consequences of the failure to detect and stop the plot. A mixture of shock, anger, and sadness overcame me when I read about revelations in Bob Woodward’s new book about a special surprise visit that George Tenet and his counterterrorism chief Cofer Black made to Condi Rice, also on July 10, 2001:

They went over top-secret intelligence pointing to an impending attack and “sounded the loudest warning” to the White House of a likely attack on the U.S. by Bin Laden.

Woodward writes that Rice was polite, but, “They felt the brushoff.”

If I were American , I could be detained without trial and executed for writing this criticism of the government.

Enemy Combatants: A dangerously broad definition of “illegal enemy combatant” in the bill could subject legal residents of the United States, as well as foreign citizens living in their own countries, to summary arrest and indefinite detention with no hope of appeal. The president could give the power to apply this label to anyone he wanted.

It's happening in my country too.

I recently posted a blog about the Flight 93 propaganda machine and a comment was left by a fellow truther, T-Bone, in response to my video. I totally misread his statement and jumped to the wrong conclusion that he was being sarcastic with me, suggesting I didn't know what I was doing and not asking the tough questions. I responded by biting his head off and it was a total overreaction on my part because I misunderstood his statement. My sincerest apologies for attacking a fellow truther. I feel like sh*t now and I hope T-Bone reads this because I am truly sorry for, once again, letting my temper get the best of me. And my apologies go to everyone in the Truth Movement for having to see that despicable side of me that I only reserve for use against the government. My deepest apologies.

Before driving to New York this fifth anniversary, I stopped off in Shanksville and interviewed a Flight 93 tour guid. Listen to how ridiculous the propaganda is. 90% of the plane found in the ground but the biggest piece, a 3 foot piece of window was found in the woods? The black boxes found 20 to 40 feet into the hole but yet noone seems to wonder why the rest of the plane isnt sticking out of the hole??? HOW STUPID DO THEY THINK WE ARE???
